Having been instructed and sent in this way, even if body and life are at risk, they will not conceal the king's command. Just like a learned and wise person, among base children, disregarding body and life, proclaims and demonstrates the extremely vast Mahayana, which is the Tathagatagarbha, the Buddha-nature inherent in all sentient beings. Some with wrong views pretend to be Arhats and, residing in border areas, slander and denigrate the extremely vast Mahayana sutras. Those base children regard them as true Arhats or Bodhisattva Mahasattvas. Although that evil practitioner with wrong views dwells in the border area, they corrupt the Dharma of that border area. Out of jealousy for others gaining profit and respect, they say that the extremely vast Mahayana sutras are also taught by evil demons, and even say that the Tathagata is impermanent, thereby destroying the sacred Dharma and corrupting the Sangha. Furthermore, they say that what is spoken by evil demons is not rejoicing in virtuous deeds, but rather speaking of those sinful, non-virtuous dharmas. Although such evil deeds are done, they do not immediately ripen like milk turning into yogurt, so they trample on it like a fire covered with ashes. Such a person is called one with wrong views. Therefore, this extremely vast Mahayana sutra is definitely completely pure. Just as a precious jewel placed in muddy water mixes with the water, so too is this Mahayana sutra. Son of the lineage, to give another example, just as a lotus flower blooms immediately when touched by sunlight. All sentient beings are also like that; if they see the great Nirvana like the sun, those who have not generated the mind will generate the mind and become a cause for Bodhi. Therefore, if the light of Nirvana enters the pores, it will also become a supreme cause. Thus I have spoken. Those with wrong views, although possessing Buddha-nature, are unable to be liberated because they are covered by countless defilements of wrongdoing, just like a silkworm cocoon, becoming a cause for Bodhi due to such karma.

Moreover, they will not be born, and will continue to revolve in samsara without end. Noble son, it is also like this: for example, the lotus flower, the udumbara flower, the water lily, and the white lotus, although they grow from the mud, they are not stained by the mud. Those sentient beings who diligently practice this great and sacred Mahaparinirvana Sutra are also like this: although they have afflictions, they are not stained by afflictions. Why? Because they know the nature of the Tathagatagarbha. Noble son, for example, in some places, there is a very cool wind. When sentient beings are tormented by heat, if the pores of their bodies touch this wind, they will be free from the torment of heat. This great Mahayana Sutra of Nirvana is also like this: it can enter the pores of all sentient beings and become the cause of enlightenment, except for those with wrong views. Why? Because they are not vessels for the Dharma. Noble son, it is also like this: for example, a skilled doctor who is proficient in the eight branches of medicine can cure all diseases, but is powerless against those who are destined to die. All the samadhis of the sutras are also like this: they can cure the diseases of all sentient beings, such as desire, hatred, and ignorance, and remove the thorns of affliction, but they are powerless against those who have broken the four root vows and committed the five heinous crimes. Noble son, it is also like this: a skilled doctor who surpasses the eight branches of medicine can eliminate all the suffering of sentient beings' diseases, but is powerless against those who are devoured by demons and are destined to die. This great Mahayana Sutra of Nirvana is also like this: it can abandon all the afflictions of sentient beings, abide in the pure cause of the Tathagata, and cause those who have not generated the mind of enlightenment to generate the mind of enlightenment, but it is powerless against those with wrong views who are destined to die. Noble son, it is also like this: a skilled doctor can enable those who have become blind from eye disease to see the sun, the moon, fire, stars, and all forms.
