Furthermore, although countless sentient beings are peacefully placed on the path to enlightenment, those with perverse views are unable to generate the cause of enlightenment. Son of good lineage, it is like this: even if the stems and branches of grasses like dantulika, trees like balishi, and lika are cut, they immediately grow back. It is not the case that they do not grow back after being cut like a tala tree. Those sentient beings are also the same. If they hear the Great Nirvana Sutra, even if they have committed the four root downfalls or the five inexpiable sins, the cause of enlightenment may still arise again. However, it is not so with those with perverse views. Even if they hear or listen to this sacred sutra, the cause of enlightenment cannot arise. Son of good lineage, it is like this: for example, if trees like katala and tsintoka are cut, it is like the seeds being burned, and they do not grow back. Those with perverse views are the same. Even if they hear the Great Nirvana Sutra, the cause of enlightenment does not arise, just like seeds being burned. Son of good lineage, it is like this: for example, when a great rain falls, it does not cling to empty space. The Great Nirvana Sutra is also the same. Even if the rain of Dharma is poured everywhere, it does not cling to those with perverse views. The bodies of those with perverse views are filled with vajra-like substance, completely pervading them, so nothing can penetrate them. Bodhisattva Light Protector asked the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan also spoke in verses: Not seeing virtue, one does not do virtue; seeing evil, one does evil. Fearing and fleeing from that is like a bad road, a precipice. The Bhagavan spoke thus, what is its meaning? The Bhagavan said: Son of good lineage, 'not seeing' means not seeing the Buddha-nature. 'Virtue' means unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. 'Not doing' means not attending to and honoring virtuous friends. 'Seeing' means seeing that there is no cause and effect. 'Evil' means slandering the vast and profound Great Vehicle sutras. 'Doing' means that those with perverse views say that the vast and profound does not exist. Therefore, those with perverse views have no mind to enter and strive in the completely pure virtuous Dharma.

Where is the place of virtue? It is Nirvana. To enter and strive for Nirvana is to diligently practice the conduct of the noble ones. Those with wrong views do not practice the conduct of the noble ones, therefore they cannot enter and strive for Nirvana. The saying "one should be afraid of that" refers to slandering the sacred Dharma. Who should be afraid? The wise and intelligent ones. Why is that? Because slandering the Dharma leads to the absence of virtuous thoughts, as there is no means of cultivation. The saying "perilous path" refers to all conditioned phenomena. The Venerable One (Od-srung) further inquired: "What are the visible actions spoken of by the Bhagavan? What turns into virtuous Dharma? Where is the place of no fear? How does the king walk the path of happiness? What is the meaning of this question?" The Bhagavan replied: "Son of good family, the so-called 'visible actions' refer to confessing sins. From the edge of Samsara, confess all the sinful and non-virtuous deeds that have been done, and thus reach a place where there is no going. Therefore, that place is fearless. For example, when a king walks on the road, wild people and others flee and scatter from the road. Similarly, if sinful and non-virtuous deeds are confessed and repented, then everything will be purified. Furthermore, not seeing the actions refers to those with wrong views who do not see even when they commit sinful and non-virtuous deeds. Those with wrong views, due to the arrogance of pride, do not fear or dread from the beginning, even though they commit many sinful and non-virtuous deeds. Therefore, they do not attain Nirvana, just like monkeys trying to grasp the moon in the water. Son of good family, even if all immeasurable sentient beings simultaneously attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment at once, those Tathagatas still cannot cause those with wrong views to attain enlightenment. Therefore, it is called 'not seeing the actions.' Furthermore, whose actions are not seen? It is not seeing the actions of the Tathagata. Although the Tathagata points out and explains the Buddha-nature to ordinary beings, those with wrong views, wandering in Samsara, cannot know or see it. Therefore, it is called 'not seeing the actions of the Tathagata.'
