also knows, and also knows the middle and lower Dharmas. The Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are also the same as this, I only know this much. The Tathagata is not like that, I know and others also know, therefore the Tathagata is called unobstructed wisdom. After the world, showing as illusory, those who are blinded by fleshy eyes think it is true. Thinking like this, they cannot know the Tathagata's unobstructed wisdom. Whether there is suffering or no suffering, only the Buddha knows, therefore the Dharma with self is also different, and the Dharma without self is also different, like cormorants and Kalandaka birds. Furthermore, son of good family, the Buddha's Dharma is similar to migrating together with cormorants and Kalandaka birds. Cormorants and Kalandaka birds, when the summer water dries up, in order to hatch and raise their young in a high and safe place, first go to where there is water. The Tathagata's descent into the world is also similar to this, in order to nurture immeasurable beings with the true Dharma, just as cormorants and Kalandaka birds and others place their young in a high and safe place, the Tathagata is also similar to this, after completing all beings' deeds, completely enters Nirvana. Son of good family, the Dharma of suffering is also different, and the Dharma of happiness is also different, all conditioned phenomena are suffering, and Nirvana is happiness. The ultimate truth is the cessation of all conditioned phenomena. Bodhisattva Light Protector asked the Blessed One: Blessed One, how do we call beings who have attained Nirvana as extremely happy? The Blessed One taught: Son of good family, as I have said, the accumulation of all conditioned phenomena is aging and death. Thus it is said. Those who are mindful and diligent are in a place like nectar. Those who are unmindful and negligent are in a place of death. Those who are diligent obtain the state of immortality. Those who are negligent always walk the path of death. Those who are not diligent are called conditioned Dharmas. That conditioned Dharma is the ultimate suffering.

Diligence is called Nirvana, Nirvana is called nectar, it is the supreme bliss. If one enters into conditioned existence, it is called the place of death, and it will become the supreme suffering. If one goes to Nirvana, it is called immortality, and one will experience the supreme bliss. If one is diligent, even if many conditioned things gather, it is permanent, blissful, immortal, and indestructible. Then, what is non-diligence? What is diligence? Non-Aryans, base common people are non-diligent, they are beings with the nature of death. Aryans who have transcended the world are diligent, they are without old age and death. Why is that? Because they have entered the supremely blissful Nirvana. Therefore, the dharma of suffering is also other, and the dharma of bliss is also other. The dharma called self (Sanskrit: ātman, Devanagari: आत्मन्, Romanization: ātman, literal meaning: self) is also other, and the dharma of non-self (Sanskrit: anātman, Devanagari: अनात्मन्, Romanization: anātman, literal meaning: non-self) is also other, just as people walking on the ground cannot see the traces of birds in the sky. Twelfth Chapter. Son of the lineage, sentient beings are also like that, because they do not have the eye of illusion, they are bound by afflictions and cannot see that they have the nature of Buddha within themselves. Therefore, I have taught what is called non-self. Why is that? Because those who do not have the eye of illusion do not know the true meaning of what is called self, and because they falsely cling to the self, they discriminate against conditioned phenomena under the control of afflictions, which is called impermanence. Therefore, I have said that the dharma of permanence is other, and the dharma of impermanence is also other. To this, it should be said: Brave and capable people, Are they dwelling on the mountain peaks? Wherever they dwell, in plains or solitary places, They always see foolish, wicked people. Having gone to the place of great wisdom, When climbing the unsurpassed stage, By eliminating all my sorrows, One can see the sorrows of all sentient beings. The Thus-Gone One, having destroyed all the immeasurable afflictions of sentient beings, dwells on the mountain of wisdom, therefore he sees that all individual beings are always tormented by immeasurable afflictions. Then, Bodhisattva Light Protector said to the Blessed One: The verses spoken by the Blessed One are not like that, why is that?
