For example, if a person is beheaded, it is said that there is no head. Similarly, being completely pacified by being free from desire is also the same. If it is said that Nirvana is empty and nothing exists, then why do you say that the Tathagata is of a permanent and unchanging nature? Furthermore, the Blessed One spoke in verses, saying: For example, extremely hot iron, when struck with a hammer, produces heat. When separated, it immediately disappears, and its location cannot be known. Perfect liberation is also the same, its nature is the same as that. Having completely abandoned all desires, having completely crossed the swamp of existence, having attained the state of immovability, the place where one has gone cannot be known. Since it is said like that, why do you say that the Tathagata is of a permanent and unchanging nature? Shariputra, that person who speaks like that is speaking falsely. Shariputra, do not generate the perception of cessation and exhaustion in the Tathagata himself. Shariputra, the cessation of afflictions cannot be designated as a real entity. Why is that? Because it is ultimate, it is called permanent. This word is extremely peaceful and unsurpassed. All characteristics are completely exhausted without any remainder. This word is completely pure, permanent, abiding, and irreversible. Therefore, Nirvana is called permanent and abiding. The Tathagata is also the same, permanent, abiding, and unchanging. What is called impermanent is affliction. Separating and disappearing, and also not finding its place, means that the Tathagata has stopped all afflictions and does not abide in the five aggregates. Therefore, the Tathagata is of a permanent, abiding, unchanging nature. Furthermore, Shariputra, the teacher of the Buddhas is the Dharma. Therefore, the Tathagata also respects and makes offerings. Because the Dharma is permanent, the Buddhas are also permanent. Then, the Bodhisattva Shariputra said to the Blessed One: If the Tathagata also ceases because the fire of afflictions has ceased, then the Tathagata is not permanent, just as the color of red-hot iron fades and cannot be found.

Just as that, the afflictions of the Tathagata are also similar to that, and a place of peace cannot be found. Furthermore, just as iron, when its heat and redness subside, cease to exist, the Tathagata is also similar to that. Having subsided and being impermanent, the fire of afflictions is extinguished and enters into complete Nirvana, therefore the Tathagata is impermanent. The Blessed One said, "Son of good family, what is called iron refers to inferior forging. Although the afflictions of inferior forging cease, they arise again immediately after ceasing, therefore it is called impermanent." The Tathagata is not like that, because having ceased, it does not arise again, therefore it is called permanent. Light Protector asked, "For example, if the red color of iron subsides and it is later heated with fire, it will become red again. If the Tathagata is also like this, then afflictions will arise again, and the arising of afflictions again is impermanence." The Blessed One said to Light Protector, "Do not say that the Tathagata is impermanent. Why is that? Because the Tathagata is permanent. Son of good family, for example, even if wood is burned, there is still ash. When afflictions cease, there is Nirvana, like the analogies of torn clothes, a severed head, or a broken vessel. Those things each have names such as torn clothes, a severed head, and a broken vessel. Light Protector, even if iron cools down, it will become hot again, but the Tathagata is not like that,

Similarly, this realm of Jambudvipa is not visible. Even if one enters nirvana, one should not say that it is impermanent. The Thus Come One arises from immeasurable afflictions. Having entered nirvana, in the realm of ultimate bliss, he feeds on the flowers of the limbs of enlightenment and lives by ultimate bliss. Again, Light Protector asked: As the World Honored One said, I have long since crossed the ocean of afflictions. If the World Honored One has crossed the ocean of afflictions, why was Rahula's son born from fame? Therefore, it seems that the Thus Come One has not been liberated from the ocean of afflictions and all afflictions. World Honored One, please tell me the cause and the condition. The World Honored One said to Light Protector: You say that the Thus Come One has long since crossed the ocean of afflictions, why was Rahula's son born from fame? Therefore, do not say that the Thus Come One has not crossed the great ocean of afflictions and all afflictions. Son of the lineage, great nirvana is the establishment of great meaning. You should listen very carefully, and proclaim it widely to others, do not generate doubt and fear. If a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in great nirvana, as tall and large as Mount Sumeru, even if he puts it into a mustard seed, the beings on Mount Sumeru will not hinder each other, nor will they know each other's movements. With the reasoning of taming, the Bodhisattva, even if he puts Mount Sumeru into a mustard seed, can also see it return to its original position. Son of the lineage, again, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in great nirvana, even if he puts the three thousand great thousand worlds into a mustard seed, the beings therein will not hinder each other, nor will they know each other's movements. The Bodhisattva, solely with the reasoning of taming, puts the three thousand great thousand worlds
