What are you talking about? That person reported to the king in detail, saying that even if the king cut my body, limbs, and appendages into pieces, I don't have a sword. I used to have a good relationship with a prince, and that prince had a good sword. I only saw it with my eyes, and I didn't even touch it with my hands, let alone take it on purpose. The king said: If you have really seen that sword, what is the shape of that sword? Reported: Great King, what I saw was something like a horn. Hearing this, the king laughed and said: Don't be sad, go wherever you like. It is impossible for me to have such a sword in my treasury, let alone your prince has seen it. Then the king said to the ministers: Have you seen such a sword? After asking this, he passed away not long after. After that, the successor of that king was granted the throne, and that king also said to the ministers: Have you ever seen such a sword in the treasury before? Asked. The ministers said: We have seen it before. He asked again: If you have seen it, what is the shape of that sword? Reported: Great King, we have seen something like a horn. The king said: It is impossible for me to have such a sword in my treasury. In this way, after four generations of kings, asking about that sword did not find any clues. Later, after many years, the prince who had escaped before returned from another place, ascended the throne as king, and obtained the throne. He also said to the ministers: Have you seen that sword? The ministers reported: Great King, we have seen it. Said: If you have seen it, what is the shape of that sword? Some ministers reported: The Son of Heaven is very clear, like an Utpala flower. Some said it was like a horn. Some said it was like a pile of red flames. Some said it was like a black snake.

At that time, the king laughed and said to the ministers, "You have not seen my true sword!" Son of the lineage, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is also like that. Having appeared in the world, he truly points out the characteristic of "self." As soon as he points it out, it disappears, which is like a prince taking a good sword and fleeing to another country. Foolish people all say that there is a "self." Saying, "There is a self, there is a self," is like a poor person sleeping in another's house and suddenly shouting, "Sword, sword!" If the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas ask sentient beings what the characteristic of "self" is like, some will say, "There is a view of 'self' and no-self as big as a thumb." Some will say, "It is as big as a mustard seed." Some will say, "It is as big as a sesame seed." Some will say, "The characteristic of 'self' dwells in the mind, burning and shining like the sun." Like this, various kinds of people do not understand the characteristic of "self," just as the ministers do not recognize that good sword. The Bodhisattva thus points out the characteristic of "self," but foolish people do not understand, so they distinguish various kinds of differences and cling to the characteristic of "self," which is like being asked what the shape of the sword is like and answering that it is like a goat's horn. Like this, base fools constantly generate evil views. In order to cut off such evil views, the Tathagata shows no-self, which is like the prince saying to the ministers, "There is no such sword in my treasury." Son of the lineage, now the "self" pointed out by the Tathagata is called Buddha-nature. Thus, that Buddha-nature is like a very bright and pure sword in the Dharma taught by the Buddha. Son of the lineage, those base fools who are so good at speaking do not enter the unsurpassed Buddhadharma. If someone can distinguish well and follow what is taught, then he should be regarded as the image of a Bodhisattva.
