The nature of cause and condition of karma are both produced. If one turns back from ignorance, it is called knowledge. Likewise, all dharmas do not have the two natures of good and non-good. Then, the Bodhisattva Light Protector said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, what is the meaning of what you said, "There is yogurt in milk"? Blessed One, if the nature of yogurt certainly exists in milk, but it is too subtle to be seen, then why do you say that yogurt arises from the condition of milk? If the dharma does not exist from the beginning, then it is permissible to say "arises." If it already exists, then why do you say "arises"? If the nature of yogurt certainly exists in milk, then milk should also exist in all plants. Likewise, plants should also exist in milk. If yogurt certainly does not exist in milk, then why does yogurt arise from the condition of milk? If the dharma does not exist from the beginning and arises later, then why do plants not grow in milk? The Buddha replied: Son of good family, one cannot definitely say that there is yogurt in milk, nor can one say that there is no yogurt in milk, nor can one say that it arises from something else. If one says that there is certainly yogurt in milk, then why are the substance and taste different? Therefore, one cannot definitely say that the nature of yogurt exists in milk. If one says that there is certainly no yogurt in milk, then why does a rabbit's horn not grow? If poison is put in milk, one will die from drinking the yogurt. Therefore, one cannot definitely say that the nature of yogurt does not exist in milk. If one says that it arises from something else, then why does yogurt not arise from water? Therefore, one cannot say that yogurt arises from something else. Son of good family, when a cow eats grass, it turns into blood, and blood turns into milk. This is accomplished by the cause of the merit of sentient beings. Thus, although milk is transformed from grass and blood, it cannot be said to be the two, but rather it is said to arise from cause and condition. Between the essence of yogurt and butter...

Likewise, it should be understood in detail. Therefore, it is called "milk yogurt," because it is called yogurt due to the cause and condition that are not obvious in milk. What cause and condition transform it? It is transformed by warmth and sourness. Therefore, from the arising of cause and condition to the essence of butter, it should be understood in detail in the same way. Therefore, there is definitely no self-nature of yogurt in milk, because it arises from other things. It cannot be said like that, because there is no basis. Son of the lineage, awareness and ignorance are also similar to that. When together with all defilements, it is called ignorance. When it is together with virtuous Dharma, at that time it is called awareness. Therefore, what I have said does not have two characteristics. Therefore, with that cause, that condition, I have said this before. There is a grass called oily grass on the snow mountain. If it is eaten, everything will turn into the essence of butter, and the Buddha-nature is also similar to that. Son of the lineage, sentient beings do not see the oily grass because of their small merit. The Buddha-nature is also similar to that, because it is covered by all defilements, sentient beings do not see it. For example, although the taste of the ocean is one salty taste, there is also the pure taste of water and the taste of milk in it. For example, the snow mountain has various qualities. Although it only grows good medicine, it is not that it does not grow poison. The body of an ordinary person is also similar to that. Although it has four poisonous snakes, there is also good medicine like a king in it. Just like this, the Buddha-nature is not a conditioned phenomenon, but is obscured by all defilements. For those who are of the royal caste, Brahmin caste, Vaishya caste, or Shudra caste, if they clear away all defilements, they will see the Buddha-nature and be able to attain unsurpassed Bodhi. For example, if clouds gather in the sky and thunder rumbles, flowers will grow on all the teeth of sheep. If there is no thunder, flowers will not grow, and there will not even be a name. The Buddha-nature of sentient beings is also similar to that. If all defilements
