Thus, the distinctions are shown. Sons of good family, those who wish to follow worldly dharmas distinguish that there are three places of refuge. Sons of good family, bodhisattvas think thus: "Since my body has gone for refuge to the Buddha, I will attain complete enlightenment with this very body. Having attained complete enlightenment, there is no need to attend to, respect, make offerings to, and prostrate to the Buddha." Why is that? Because the Buddha, the Bhagavan, equally acts as the place of refuge for all sentient beings. To pay homage to the relics of the Dharma body is to respectfully prostrate to the stupas of the Buddhas. Why is that? It is for the sake of liberating individual ordinary beings. Furthermore, sentient beings generate the perception of my body as a stupa, and they make prostrations and offerings. Thus, those sentient beings also make my Dharma body a place of seeking refuge. All sentient beings abide in untrue, wrong dharmas, therefore I gradually show the true Dharma. Furthermore, for those who have gone for refuge to a non-true sangha, I also make the place of going for refuge to the true sangha. For those who differentiate the Three Jewels, I also show that there is only one place of refuge, and there is no differentiation into three. To a blind person who has become blind, it is also shown as an eye. Furthermore, I also think to make the place of refuge of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas true. Sons of good family, thus the bodhisattvas perform the deeds of the Buddha for the sake of immeasurable, untamed sentient beings and those wise, intelligent ones. Sons of good family, for example, when a person goes to battle, he thinks, "I am the best, and all these assemblies of armies also depend solely on me." Furthermore, for example, a young regent thinks, "I have subdued all the princes, and I have dominion over all the rule and power of the great king, and all the princes also turn to me, therefore I do not generate a weak thought." Just like the king and the prince, the minister

The great Bodhisattva is also like that. Son of the lineage, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva also thinks like this: How can these three things become one with me and self-nature? Son of the lineage, these three things that I have taught are Nirvana. The Tathagata is the supreme holy being, just as the head is the most precious among all the limbs of the human body, and is different from others, so is the Buddha, who is supreme and not the Dharma and the Sangha. In order to save the beings of the world, various characteristics are shown separately like the steps of a ladder. Therefore, you should not regard the Three Jewels as different characteristics like a foolish child. You have entered the Mahayana, and your sharp wisdom is like a sharp sword. Bodhisattva Light Protector asked the Blessed One: I am asking the Blessed One with understanding, not without understanding. I have entered the undefiled and pure realm of practice for the sake of those brave and dull-witted Bodhisattvas. Furthermore, the Tathagata has separately explained the rare and wonderful things to the Bodhisattvas, and praised the vast Mahayana Sutra Pitaka, so I have entered, and the Tathagata has spoken well with great compassion, and I also want to abide in this. Where the pure conduct of the Bodhisattva is shown, there is the showing of the Great Nirvana Sutra Pitaka. Blessed One, I will also widely proclaim the secret essence of the Tathagata to all sentient beings, and make them correctly understand the place of refuge in the Three Jewels. If sentient beings generate faith in this Holy Great Nirvana Sutra, then that person will be able to know and comprehend the place of refuge in the Three Jewels. Why? Because the secret essence of the Tathagata has Buddha-nature. Whoever teaches and explains this sutra, his body has Buddha-nature.

强调常的法就是如来 secret essence(གསང་བའི་སྙིང་པོ།),涅槃是处所。

Not saying there is not, that person will not seek refuge other than the Three Jewels. Why is that? Because in the future, this body of mine will become the Three Jewels, and all Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and other beings will rely on me, making offerings, respecting, and prostrating to me. Son of good family, therefore, one should diligently study the Mahayana sutras. Bhadraka (འོད་སྲུང་།) further reported that the Buddha's nature is inconceivable, and likewise, the thirty-two marks and eighty minor marks are also inconceivable. Then, the Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Bhadraka, "Good! Very good!" Son of good family, you possess very profound wisdom, and I will also explain well to you the method of entering the Tathagatagarbha. If "I" is a truly permanent dharma, then it will not be free from suffering. If it is said that there is no "I," then pure conduct will be without benefit. If it is said that all dharmas are without self, that is a view of annihilation. If it is said that "I" is real, that is a view of permanence. If one considers all conditioned phenomena to be impermanent, that will also become a view of annihilation. If one considers conditioned phenomena to be permanent, that will also become a view of permanence. If one speaks of suffering, that is a view of annihilation. If one speaks of happiness, that is a view of permanence. If one insists that all dharmas are permanent, one will fall into a view of annihilation. If one insists that all dharmas are annihilated, one will fall into a view of permanence. For example, worms entering a hole abandon their front legs and then abandon their hind legs. Insisting on permanence and annihilation is also like that, relying on the causes of annihilation and permanence. Therefore, emphasizing the dharma of suffering is unwholesome. Emphasizing the dharma of happiness is called virtuous. Emphasizing the dharma of no-self is the aspect of all afflictions. Emphasizing the dharma of permanence is called the secret essence (གསང་བའི་སྙིང་པོ།) of the Tathagata, and Nirvana is the place.
