It is called "Pa." Furthermore, it is said that in the past, when the Blessed One Buddha was dwelling in Jeta's Grove in the Prince's Garden, the monks were raising and possessing male servants, female servants, hired workers, cattle, sheep, goats, woolly mammoths, horses, donkeys, mules, birds, dogs, pigs, and so on. They were also holding and using gold, silver, beryl, pearls, crystal, conch shell, sea conch, glass cloth, iron, copper, large and small copper bowls, and other unexamined objects. They were also farming, trading, storing, and using grains and rice. The Blessed One, with great compassion, allowed them to hold and use these things for the sake of loving beings. If such things are mentioned in the Sutras or Vinaya, then that is the teaching of Mara. Among them, when the Buddha was dwelling in Jeta's Grove in the Prince's Garden, in a place called "Yidak Adali Lo," at that time, the Blessed One spoke thus for the sake of the Brahmin Ra's qualities and King Sderabtuphamjepa: A monk should not possess gold, silver, beryl, crystal, pearls, sea conch, coral, conch shell, glass cloth, male servants, female servants, hired workers, boys, girls, cattle, sheep, woolly mammoths, horses, donkeys, mules, birds, dogs, pigs, iron, copper, large and small copper bowls, and other unexamined objects, beds, bedding, various kinds of living utensils, houses, farming, trading, cooking utensils, grinding tools, rice planting tools, mantras for nourishing the body, rituals for subduing crows, astrology, divination, examining the characteristics of husband and wife, interpreting dreams, 'This will be a boy,' 'This will be a girl,' 'This is not a boy,' 'This is not a girl,' examining the sixty-four skills, and also the eighteen fields of knowledge, mantras, various crafts, and speaking of immeasurable worldly knowledge, and powdered incense, scented oils, and

Preparing various kinds of incense, making various kinds of flower garlands, performing rituals of hair dressing, deception, pretense, greed for profit and gain, not knowing satisfaction, liking noise, liking idle talk and nonsense, liking fish and meat, concocting poisons, concocting medicines to remove moles, concocting fragrant oils for anointing, making precious umbrellas and shoes and other items, making whisks, cosmetic boxes, and paintings and other items, as well as rice and various kinds of beans, various kinds of fruits, etc., relying on kings, princes, ministers, and great ministers, relying on women, sometimes laughing loudly, sometimes remaining silent without speaking, doubting the Dharma, lying, falsely saying good or bad, virtuous or non-virtuous, showing off with gorgeous clothes, and so on, acting and behaving in various unexamined places like these, boasting about oneself in front of patrons and devotees, selling alcohol in unexamined places, constantly going to trade with prostitutes and merchants, etc., all these I have not allowed monks to do. Nor is it allowed for them to reside in the community of monks, but they are made to return to lay life and work. For example, just as weeds grow in a fertile field, all the remaining weeds must be cleared and pulled out. It is said in the Sutras and Vinaya that this is what the Tathagata taught. Therefore, whoever follows what the demons teach is called belonging to the retinue of demons. Whoever follows what the Buddha teaches is called a Bodhisattva. Furthermore, it is said that Bodhisattvas go to temples to worship the gods of the world. For example, going to Brahma, Maheshvara, Vishnu, Katyayana, and so on. Even if they go there, it is not to subdue the gods. There is no such situation. Furthermore, it is said that Bodhisattvas are skilled in and surpass the doctrines of non-Buddhists, asceticism and conduct, words and debates.

Because they cannot resolve disputes, they are not approached by children, girls, and great ministers, etc. Because they also do not know how to mix medicines, etc., they are called Tathagatas. If they did know, they would be regarded as having wrong views. Furthermore, Tathagatas regard enemies and friends equally. Whether struck with weapons or anointed with fragrant oils, they have no intention of benefiting or harming either, but remain in the middle way. Therefore, they are called Tathagatas. If such statements appear in the Sutras or Vinaya, it should be recognized that they are taught by Mara. Among them, if someone says that Bodhisattvas enter the realm of gods through skillful means, or renounce and engage in learning from non-Buddhist teachings, or demonstrate conduct, asceticism, and contentment, or enter schools of writing to understand all the words of the victors, or demonstrate the ability to pacify quarrels, or are shown to be superior and excellent among many retinues, children, girls, consorts, palace attendants, householders, merchants, Brahmins, etc., as well as kings, great ministers, and the poor, etc. It also shows that they are revered, etc. In this way, many forms of things are shown. Although they abide in these views, they are not attached, just as a lotus is not stained by dust and dirt. Moreover, in order to liberate many beings, they follow the world and employ various skillful methods. If such statements appear in the Sutras or Vinaya, it should be recognized that they are taught by the Tathagatas. Among them, whoever follows the teachings of Mara is said to belong to the retinue of Mara. Whoever follows the teachings of the Buddha is a great Bodhisattva. Among them, if someone says that the Tathagatas have taught us in the Sutras and Vinaya that unwholesome dharmas have degrees of heaviness and lightness, and even minor offenses have inherent degrees of heaviness, so we do not violate the Vinaya. We have been patient for a long time, but you do not believe in these dharmas, then...
