Having paid homage and prostrated respectfully. Then, Bodhisattva Light Protector said to the Blessed One: As the Blessed One has said, offering to the guru and the acharya is like this, but please explain it in detail. If a guru who possesses discipline asks a young person who has not heard something before, should one prostrate to that person? If one prostrates to him, it cannot be said to be keeping the precepts. If a young person who possesses discipline asks an old guru who has broken his discipline about something he has not heard before, should one also prostrate to him? If a renunciate asks a householder about something he has not heard before, should one also prostrate to him? It has also been said that a renunciate should not prostrate to a householder, but according to Buddhism, young people should respect and prostrate to older gurus. Why is that? Because the older gurus have taken full ordination first, so they should be served and prostrated to. Also, as the Blessed One has said, those who have broken their discipline are not included in Buddhism, like weeds in a barren field. On the other hand, the Blessed One has said that if one knows the true Dharma, whether old or young, one should worship him as the gods worship the king of power. What is the meaning of these two statements? Is there no contradiction in what the Tathagata has said? The Blessed One has said that, on the other hand, there is no fault in a monk who keeps the precepts, why did the Blessed One say that? The Blessed One has also said in other sutras that those who have broken their discipline should be punished with expulsion, but that is not a definite meaning. The Blessed One said to Light Protector: Son of good family, I spoke those verses for the sake of the bodhisattvas who strive for the Great Vehicle in the future, not for the sake of the hearers' attendants. Son of good family, as I said before, when the true Dharma declines and those with bad discipline act, when those with bad discipline appear and act unlawfully, all the noble ones

If it has not happened, then when holding and using male slaves, female slaves, and unchecked objects, one of the four types of people will appear, shaving their hair and beard and going forth, diligently practicing. Therefore, the monks each hold male slaves, female slaves, and unchecked objects of labor, and do not know whether they have been checked or not. Seeing those who do not understand the precepts or the non-precepts, that person, in order to tame those monks, outwardly observes the precepts, but their behavior is inconsistent. They are very clear and aware of their own conduct and the realm of the Buddha's conduct, and even if they see others committing offenses, they do not speak or discuss it. Why? Because I have appeared in the world to protect and establish the true Dharma, therefore I do not speak or discuss it. Son of good family, in this way, that person, in order to protect the Dharma, even if there is a fault, should not be said to have broken the precepts. Son of good family, for example, a king is attacked by illness and dies, and the crown prince is young and unable to handle state affairs. Sometimes a Candala has a great deal of treasure, is extremely wealthy, lives prosperously, and has many attendants, relying on his power to seize the king's power. If he ascends the throne, most of the householders and Brahmins living in that country will flee to other countries. If they live there, they will not want to look at that great king. If householders, merchants, and Brahmins cannot leave the country, it is like a tree dying in the place where it grew. That Candala king, realizing that many people were fleeing, sent other Candalas to guard the roads and streets, drumming for seven days, and saying: 'O Brahmins, whoever can anoint me from the top of my head, I will give him half of the country.' He called out in this way, but not one Brahmin dared to agree. They each said to each other: 'It is impossible for anyone of the Brahmin caste to do such a thing.' That Candala king said again: 'Brahmins, one of you'
