There is also no place for transformation. What is the meaning of "receiving non-retrogression"? It means that this person will not return to the previously mentioned faults of sin, nor will they be tainted by them. Even if they return and are reborn, they are called Bodhisattvas. Because they have already received the prophecy, they will soon manifest and attain the Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment, this is the third type of person. The fourth type of person is called Arhat, Arhat is one who has cut off all defilements, abandoned burdens, accomplished what needs to be done, later thoroughly obtained their own benefit, abides in the ten bhumis, masters wisdom, and can show various forms and appearances as each individual desires. If they want to manifest Buddhahood, they will also show enlightenment. Because they possess such immeasurable qualities, they are called Arhats. Therefore, if these four great beings appear in the world, they will treat the world with compassion, become the place and support of the world, bring benefit and happiness to many gods and humans, and become the most excellent, the most important, and the most outstanding among gods and humans, just as all Tathagatas are places of refuge and are the best among humans. The Bodhisattva Light Protector asked the Bhagavan (World Honored One): World Honored One, I do not abide in or rely on these four types of people. What is the reason for this? The World Honored One once said in the questions of the Gushila Sutra: Gushila, in order to destroy and ruin you, gods, demons, Brahma, etc., will transform into the form of a Buddha, possessing the thirty-two major marks, eighty minor marks, a fathom of light, a face like a full moon, and a white hair-mark between the eyebrows like a snow mountain or conch shell. If they come like this, you must discern whether they are real or fake. After discerning clearly, then go and subdue them. World Honored One, since demons and others can show and transform into the body of a Buddha, then the bodies of the four types of people such as Arhats...

appearing to walk in the sky, and sleeping, sitting, and lying down, and water flowing from the left side, and fire flowing from the right side, and smoke rising from the body, appearing like a heap of flames, what need is there to mention other things? Because of such causes and conditions, I do not generate faith in them, and even if there is a teacher, I do not properly practice reverence, nor do I think of them as a refuge and place. The Blessed One said: Son of good family, even if there is doubt about my teachings, it should not be grasped, what need is there to mention the teachings spoken by them? Therefore, one should examine very carefully what is virtuous and non-virtuous, what should be done and what should not be done, and understand it in one's heart. If one acts in this way, one will experience happiness for a long time. Son of good family, for example, if a dog thief comes to a house, and if the maidservant guarding the house notices him, she will scold him and tell him to leave quickly. If he does not run away, he will be killed. When the dog hears this, he will run away and not return. You should also say this when subduing evil demons: Evil demon, do not show yourself in such a form. If you show yourself, you will be bound by the five bonds. When the demon hears this, he will run away and not return, just as that dog thief does not return. The Venerable One also asked: The Blessed One once said to the householder Gushila: Whoever subdues demons in this way is close to great nirvana. Why did the Blessed One speak of the four types of individuals as refuge and place? Are the four types of individuals necessarily trustworthy to the teacher? The Blessed One said to the Venerable One: Son of good family, what I have said is also like that, it is just so. Son of good family, I have taught the method of subduing demons to the Shravakas who have eyes of flesh, but not to the individuals who are diligent in the Great Vehicle. The individual of the Shravaka, even if he becomes one with divine eye, is still called one with eyes of flesh. One who studies the Great Vehicle, even if he has eyes of flesh, is called the eye of the Buddha. Why is that? The Sutra Pitaka of the Great Vehicle is called the Vehicle of the Buddha, and the Vehicle of the Buddha is the most excellent and supreme. Son of good
