In some cases, it is not permissible to illustrate with examples. Therefore, liberation possesses such immeasurable qualities, that is, entering into Nirvana. Nirvana and the Tathagata also possess such immeasurable qualities. Possessing such immeasurable qualities, because of its perfection, it is called the Great Perfect Nirvana. Bodhisattva Light-Protector beseeched the Blessed One: Blessed One, I wish to understand the place where the Tathagata appears, that is, the immeasurable place. Since it is immeasurable, it should also be understood that the length of life is also immeasurable. The Blessed One said: Well done! Well done! Son of good family, you truly uphold and protect the true Dharma. Sons or daughters of good family who desire to cut off all the bonds of affliction should thus hold and protect the sacred Dharma. Son of good family, from this very profound Nirvana Sutra, there are four kinds of people who can protect the true Dharma, establish the true Dharma, remember the true Dharma, and have compassion for sentient beings in the world, becoming the refuge and abode of sentient beings, bringing benefit and happiness to gods and many people. Who are these four people? That is, whoever transcends the world and possesses the characteristics of affliction is called a Stream-enterer, this is the first person. Once-returner is the second person. Non-returner is the third person. Arhat is the fourth person. When these four kinds of people appear in the world, they will have compassion for sentient beings in the world, becoming the refuge and abode of sentient beings, bringing benefit and happiness to gods and many people. What is it to possess the characteristics of affliction? That is, whoever is able to fully guard the precepts, whose conduct is not flawed, thereby establishing the true Dharma, and who truly understands the letters and meanings heard from the Buddha, and can also extensively explain and teach them to others, such as: having few desires, having many desires, being enlightenment, and so on, the eight great men.

Now I will explain the extensive Dharma. Those who have committed offenses should be made to confess and repent, so that their offenses may be purified. Those who are extremely skilled in the methods and conduct of Bodhisattvas, and in the Dharma spoken after realization, are not the eight types of individuals called "individual children." The eight types of individuals are not called "individual children," nor are they called "Buddhas" who are "Bodhisattvas." The second type of individual is called "Stream-enterer." Does the Once-returner attain the true Dharma? Does he grasp the true Dharma? If he hears the Dharma from the Buddha, he writes it down in books and holds it, reads it, recites it, and also extensively teaches and explains it to others, just as he has heard it. They hear the Dharma but do not write it down or hold it, nor do they grasp it, nor do they explain it to others. There is no reason to say that the Buddha allows the possession of unexamined things such as male and female slaves. That is called the second type of person, and that person has not attained the second and third Bhumis, nor can he be called a prediction of a Bodhisattva. The third type of person is called "Non-returner." Does the Non-returner slander the true Dharma? Does he allow the possession of unexamined things such as male and female slaves and servants? Does he study and grasp the treatises and writings of non-Buddhists? Will he be obscured by pervasive defilements? Will he be obscured and covered by latent defilements? Will he hide and conceal the true relics of the Tathagata? Will he be harmed and injured by many external diseases? Will he be seized by the four poisonous snakes? There is no reason to speak of self, but there is reason to speak of no-self. There is no reason to speak of attachment to worldly dharmas, but there is reason to speak of the uninterrupted lineage of the Mahayana. There is no reason to say that anyone who takes a body will be eaten by eighty thousand worms, but there is reason to say that having completely abandoned desire, even in childhood, impure things will not appear even in dreams. Feeling fear when doing the activities of the end of life.
