Homage to the Bhagavan! To generate faith in beings, and to cut off the suffering of samsara, I request you to remain in the world for a long time! The Bhagavan said to Cunda: So it is, so it is. As you have said, it is extremely rare for the Buddha Bhagavan to come into the world, like the Udumbara flower. It is even rarer to meet the Buddha and generate faith. It is even rarer for the Buddha to accept offerings at the time of his complete nirvana, and to perfect the perfection of generosity. Cunda, do not be sad, but generate joy. The Tathagata has accepted this last offering, and the perfection of generosity is complete, it is enough, do not request the Bhagavan to remain in the world for a long time. You should understand that all the realms of the Buddhas are impermanent, and the nature of conditioned phenomena is also like that. Then, the Bhagavan spoke to Cunda in verses: All conditioned things in the world, if there is birth, there is death. Even if life can last for countless years, in the end, one must realize that it will be exhausted. If there is prosperity, there is decline, if there is gathering, there is separation. Youth is also impermanent, and the flourishing appearance will also be taken away by disease. The life of survival will also be taken away by death, there is no dharma that is eternal. Kings who have power, even if they have divine power, might, and unparalleled strength, everything will change and shift, and the life of survival is also like that. The wheel of suffering has no end, and the cycle in samsara never stops. All three realms are not eternal, and all existence is not happiness. The nature of existence, things, everything is emptiness and without self-nature, it is the law of destruction, changing and shifting, always accompanied by sorrow and faults. Many faults, it is the law of destruction, always tormented by old age, disease, and death. The dharma of existence is boundless, accompanied by the enemy of change and shift. Afflictions are everywhere, like a silkworm. For these, who would a wise and intelligent person like and admire? This body is a collection of suffering, everything is unclean and filthy. Bound by faults, full of wounds, there is no benefit at all. Upwards

Even in the realm of gods and humans, everything is similar to that. Because all desires are impermanent, I do not cling to them. By abandoning desires and contemplating well, one can realize the true reality. Cutting off all existence, one enters nirvana in this very moment. I have crossed to the other shore of existence, utterly transcending all suffering. Therefore, what is obtained now is only the supreme bliss. Through its causes and conditions, one realizes the limit of non-proliferation. Having cut off all bonds, one enters nirvana in this very moment. I have no old age, death, or sickness, nor do I know the measure of life. Today's entry into nirvana is like the extinguishing of a great fire. Venerable Cunda, do not be confused. In the meanings of the Tathagata, this essence of the Tathagata should be examined like Mount Sumeru. I have entered nirvana and will experience supreme bliss. It is the nature of all Buddhas, therefore one should not weep. Then Cunda addressed the Bhagavan thus: So it is, so it is, just as the Bhagavan has said. My wisdom in seeking is very small, like a bee. How can I understand the profound meaning of the Tathagata's passing into complete nirvana? Bhagavan, I have become equal to the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas who are like great dragons, having cut off all defilements and outflows, and transformed into Manjushri Kumara and others. Bhagavan, just as a newly ordained novice monk, though not fully ordained, is counted among the Sangha, so too, through the blessings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, I have been counted among those great Bodhisattvas. Therefore, I pray that the Tathagata will abide in the world for a long time and not enter nirvana. Bhagavan, just as a hungry person no longer begs, Bhagavan, so too, I pray that you will abide in the world for a long time and not enter nirvana. Then Manjushri Kumara said to Cunda: Cunda, you say that the Tathagata will abide in the world for a long time and not enter nirvana.

I pray. Just as a very hungry person would not find vomit disgusting, do not say that, you must deeply understand the characteristics of all conditioned things. If you examine conditioned things in this way, you will have the samadhi of emptiness. Those who desire the true Dharma should train in this way. The Venerable Cunda said to Manjushri: The Tathagata is called the most excellent among gods and humans, the most supreme, is the Tathagata a conditioned thing? If the Tathagata is a conditioned thing, then it will become subject to arising and ceasing. For example, like a water bubble, it arises instantly and disappears instantly. The cycle of samsara is like a chariot wheel, and all conditioned things are the same. As I have heard before, the lifespan of the gods is very long, why is the Blessed One, the god of gods, so short-lived, not even staying for a hundred years? For example, the lord of a powerful city-state, with power and strength, defeats his enemies. Once his merit is exhausted and he becomes poor, he will be despised, beaten, and enslaved by everyone. Why is that? Because the blessings and power have declined. Then, the Blessed One will also be in accordance with conditioned things. If he is in accordance with conditioned things, then he cannot be called the god of gods. Why is that? Because conditioned things are subject to arising and ceasing. Therefore, Manjushri, do not think that the Tathagata is in accordance with conditioned things. Manjushri, do you speak knowingly, or because you do not understand, do you say that the Tathagata is in accordance with conditioned things? If the Tathagata is in accordance with conditioned things, then the Tathagata is the god of gods in the three realms, and cannot be called the independent Dharma King. For example, a king has a very powerful warrior who can defeat a thousand enemies, and no one can defeat him, he is called the warrior who cannot be defeated by a thousand enemies. The king will also reward the warrior and give him more rewards than others. The warrior who is called the warrior who cannot be defeated by a thousand enemies does not only defeat a thousand enemies with strength, but with various skills.
