Son of the lineage, in the future, in the last five hundred years of the degenerate age, it is rare for a monk with pride of attainment to appear. Why is that? Son of the lineage, without generating the four meditations, one cannot fall into pride of attainment. Why is that? Because at that time, it is rare for those monks to have a stable mind, let alone those who enter into the four meditations. Son of the lineage, therefore, in the future, in the last five hundred years of the degenerate age, it is rare for a monk with pride of attainment to appear. Son of the lineage, however, these two are those with pride of attainment. Which two? Those who are attached to views and have pride of attainment in meditation, and those who, for the sake of gain and respect, fall into pride of attainment by boasting of noble lineage, discipline, learning, virtuous qualities of practice, and slightly reducing possessions. These two are those with pride of attainment. Whoever becomes one with pride of attainment, those who abandon the Dharma and Vinaya spoken by the Tathagata will go to the hells of sentient beings, the realm of animals, and the world of Yama. Said: Manjushri, without knowing the minds of others, how can one know that this is someone with pride of attainment? Said: If one hears the words, 'Ordinary beings will be liberated from suffering, but not the Arhats,' and becomes frightened, one should recognize that person as having pride of attainment. If one hears the words, 'Ordinary beings will see the Tathagata, but not the Arhats,' and becomes frightened, one should recognize that person as having pride of attainment. If one hears the words, 'Ordinary beings will completely give alms, but not the Arhats,' and becomes frightened, one should recognize that person as having pride of attainment. If one hears the words, 'Ordinary beings will please the Tathagata, but not the Arhats,' and becomes frightened, one should recognize that person as having pride of attainment. Those who do not waver from all afflictions are those who do not rely. Those who do not rely are the place of giving in the world. Whoever wavers from afflictions,

They are the support. Those who are the support are not the place of giving in the world. Those who argue among them should be known as those with manifest pride. Those who do not understand the profound Dharma principle that "all dharmas are arising" should be known as those with manifest pride. Those who do not enter into the truth that "all dharmas should not be fully known, should not be abandoned, should not be cultivated, should not be manifested" should be known as those with manifest pride. Said: Manjushri, what is the seal of no manifest pride? Said: No contradiction and no argument is no manifest pride. Son of good family, for example, the lion, the king of wild animals in the mountains, is not frightened by all sounds. Similarly, son of good family, a bhikkhu without manifest pride is not frightened by all sounds. Why is that? Because he knows all dharmas are like echoes. Echoes have no mind, no intention, no consciousness, yet relying on them, sounds arise. Similarly, he knows mind and intention as they truly are. He understands that all sounds depend on conditions, so he does not generate joy in all sounds. He does not cling to the sound of the Buddha, nor is he angry at the sound of heretics. He does not cling to the sound of purification, nor is he angry at the sound of afflictions. And he understands the prior and posterior limits of all sounds. Son of good family, this is called the seal of no manifest pride, which is the seal of no establishment and no grasping, the seal of suchness, the seal of true accomplishment, the seal of the characteristic of self-nature, the seal of entering into one principle, the seal of truly gathering in the realm of Dharma, the seal of the non-difference of suchness, the seal of the place of true limit, the seal of ultimate emptiness, the seal of the equality of the three times, the seal of being unborn from the beginning, the seal of individually awakening to self-nature, is.

Son of good family, if a monk without arrogance hears all the teachings sealed by those mudras, he will not be hesitant, he will not be doubtful, and he will realize the absence of self. Then, the wanderer Jayanmati said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, in the past I have also heard some praises of the qualities of this Great Vehicle from the wanderer Upatissa and the wanderer Candramas of the Nanda family. Blessed One, now I have heard the exposition of the sacred Dharma from the youthful Manjushri and have generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. Blessed One, please teach me now how I can accumulate the dharmas of the path to enlightenment, quickly realize unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, and become a Buddha to benefit countless sentient beings." The Blessed One said: "Jayanmati, these two dharmas of bodhisattvas quickly lead to the realization of unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. What are the two? They are diligence and mindfulness. What is diligence? It is the complete abandonment of all possessions and wealth acquired through the Dharma. What is mindfulness? It is the complete dedication to enlightenment without expecting any ripening." Therein, diligence is to strive earnestly to abandon all non-virtuous dharmas and to perfect all virtuous dharmas. Mindfulness is to dedicate oneself to enlightenment with pure morality and without desiring any rebirths. Therein, diligence is to endure and persevere without regard for body and mind. Mindfulness is to protect all sentient beings with a mind free from anger. Therein, diligence is to never tire of practicing virtuous dharmas correctly. Mindfulness is to dedicate all virtuous dharmas that have been practiced correctly to omniscience. Therein, diligence is to not be discouraged by practicing the limbs of meditation correctly. Mindfulness is to
