After that, (he) lived in the vast city of Vaisali. I entered into samadhi and observed the roots of virtue of those other non-Buddhists. There, I saw many non-Buddhist beings who could be tamed, so I went there and taught them the Dharma. However, they were not respectful of the Dharma I taught, they did not listen attentively, and they did not treat it with a mind of universal understanding. Instead, they mocked and insulted me, and even spoke harsh words. There, for three months, I was unable to fully ripen any of those beings, and I became discouraged, so I left in discouragement. After that, Manjushri, transformed into a youth, manifested five hundred non-Buddhists, appointed himself as the teacher, and with five hundred attendants, went to where the son of the naked mother, the truth-speaker, was. Upon arriving, he bowed his head to the feet of the son of the naked mother, the truth-speaker, and then sat before him, saying to the son of the naked mother, the truth-speaker: "We have heard the fame and great verses of the noble one, and we have come to this city of Vaisali from other lands. You are our teacher, and we are your disciples. We receive teachings from you. In any case, please ensure that we do not see the Shramana Gautama and his Shravaka disciples, and in any case, please ensure that we do not hear any teachings that are contrary to him." The son of the naked mother, the truth-speaker, said: "Good men, excellent! Excellent! You who are endowed with faith and joy, you will soon understand my teachings." After that, the son of the naked mother, the truth-speaker, said to his attendants: "Come, you and these five hundred sons of Brahmins, be universally joyful together, live in harmony, discuss the Dharma with each other, and dwell together. Whatever small things they say, you must remember them well today." After that, Manjushri, transformed into a youth, lived together with the five hundred naked non-Buddhist attendants and the Shravaka disciples of the other non-Buddhists, (observing) their asceticism, conduct, and discipline.

The more continuous and uninterrupted his words, the more they are revealed to me and my retinue. Sometimes he praises the Three Jewels, and sometimes he praises the true qualities of the Naked Ascetic Truth-Speaker. By making them believe this, at other times and occasions, when other non-Buddhists gathered, transformed into Manjushri Kumara, he said this: 'O venerable ones, just as it is said in our treatises, mantras, Vedas, and scriptures, there is also praise for the true qualities of the Shramana Gautama. Why is that? It is like this: Shramana Gautama is of perfect lineage, his parents are pure, he was born into the lineage of a Chakravartin king. He possesses the marks of a hundred merits. As soon as he was born, Indra and Brahma held him, and the universe of the great trichiliocosm trembled in six ways. Without being held, he took seven steps, and also spoke these words: "I am the chief of the world, I will end birth and death." Having spoken these words, two streams of water appeared, and Indra, Brahma, and the guardians of the world bathed him. The musical instruments of gods and humans sounded without being struck. He emitted such a light that all the unfortunate realms were individually liberated by the light, and all the abodes of Mara were subdued. All those whose faculties were impaired became unimpaired. In that instant, all the afflictions of all beings were pacified, and they attained supreme bliss. Brahmins who knew the Vedic rituals also said that if he stayed at home, he would become a Chakravartin king. If he went to the forest, he would become a Dharma king, a Buddha.' After advising thus, he renounced the kingship of a Chakravartin and went forth. At the Bodhi tree, he subdued a hundred kotis of Mara's armies and attained enlightenment. In the world, he turned the wheel of Dharma that no Shramana, Brahmin, god, Mara, or Brahma could turn in accordance with the Dharma. He also taught such Dharma: the Brahmacharya is good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end, with good meaning, good words, unmixed, and completely perfect.
