He led and placed him. Venerable Shariputra, do you doubt that the ascetic named Dharma-desire at that time was someone else? If you have doubts, you should not look at it that way. Why is that? Because I myself at that time was the ascetic named Dharma-desire. Venerable Shariputra, do you doubt that the ascetic named Kunjin at that time was someone else? If you have doubts, you should not look at it that way. Why is that? Because you yourself at that time were the ascetic named Kunjin. Venerable Shariputra, at that time, he was also placed unequally, but equally with me. Thus, because he possessed the wisdom of that single direction, even now he is still placed unequally, but equally with me. The son of Sharadvati also said this to Venerable Subhuti: Venerable Subhuti, I personally know that when I practiced in the southern Buddha-field together with Manjushri, who had become a youth, after passing through many billions of hundreds of thousands of kotis of Buddha-fields, in the world called "Covered with All Ornaments," in the Buddha-field of the Blessed One, the Tathagata named Precious Life-Essence, I went to see, pay homage to, and serve the Blessed One. Then, Manjushri, who had become a youth, said to me: Venerable Shariputra, have you seen those Buddha-fields that we have surpassed? I said to him: Manjushri, I have seen them. He said: Venerable Sharadvati's son, what did you see those Buddha-fields like? I said to him: Some are completely filled with fire, some are completely filled with water, some have become space, some are prosperous and flourishing, some are being destroyed, some are being formed, some are completely filled with bad destinies, and some are free from bad destinies. He said: Venerable Sharadvati's son, how should those Buddha-fields be viewed? I said to him: Those that are completely filled with fire are completely filled with fire.

It should be regarded as a state of being filled. Those that are filled with water should be regarded as a state of being filled with water. Those that have become space should be regarded as a state of having become space. Those that are prosperous and vast should be regarded as a state of being prosperous and vast. Those that are destroyed should be regarded as a state of being destroyed. Those that are formed should be regarded as a state of being formed. Those that are filled with evil destinies should be regarded as a state of being filled with evil destinies. Those that are free from evil destinies should be regarded as a state of being free from evil destinies. He said: The realm of wisdom of the venerable Sharadvatiputra is also explained in this way. Thereupon, I said this: Manjushri, how do you see those Buddha fields? He said: Venerable Sharadvatiputra, all Buddha fields are seen as fields of space. Why is that? It is like this: whether filled with fire, or filled with water, or prosperous in wealth, or destroyed, or formed, or filled with evil destinies, or free from evil destinies, those are not real. Those conditions are sudden occurrences, endowed with birth and death. Space is not caused by conditions, but is naturally abiding. Likewise, it is said that the mind is defiled by sudden afflictions, but the nature of the mind is never defiled. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, for example, even if the space had been burned by kalpas as numerous as the sands of the Ganges in the past, the space would never have been burned before. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, likewise, even if each sentient being accumulates as many non-virtuous deeds as the sands of the Ganges, the nature of the mind is never defiled in the same way. Venerable Sharadvatiputra, any son or daughter of good family who enters such a realm of Dharma that is naturally completely pure, there is not even a small amount of arising that will occur through arising, obscuration, or accumulation. This is the Dharma gate of non-arising.

Relying on that Dharma gate, Bodhisattva Mahasattvas enter into the complete purity of the nature of all dharmas, skillfully knowing what arises from faults, and their minds will never be obscured by obscuring dharmas. Venerable Subhuti, what I have personally witnessed of the miraculous transformations and Dharma teachings transformed by Manjushri, who has become a youth, is only a part of them, namely those. Then, the Venerable Ananda said this to the Venerable Sariputra: Venerable Sariputra, I have also personally witnessed some of the miraculous transformations of Manjushri, who has become a youth. Venerable Sariputra, I know that at one time, the Blessed One was in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Park, together with a great Sangha of eight hundred bhikshus and twenty thousand Bodhisattvas. At that time, a great untimely cloud appeared in Shravasti, and for seven days continuously, a great untimely rain fell. Those bhikshus who had great miraculous powers, great strength, and had attained dhyana, liberation, samadhi, and samapatti, spent their time in dhyana, liberation, samadhi, and samapatti. But those who had not attained them went without food for seven days. Then, those bhikshus became weak and were unable to go to see the Blessed One. At that time, I thought to myself: Alas, if these bhikshus become weak, I will go to the Blessed One and report these circumstances to the Blessed One. Thinking this, I went to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, I bowed to the Blessed One's two feet with my head and said this to the Blessed One: Blessed One, alas, these bhikshus have not eaten for seven days, and being weakened by hunger, they have become feeble, unable to rise from their beds, and unable to go to see the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One
