If he were to give away all such great vehicles, what more need be said of my own children? At that time, those youths, having mounted those great vehicles, and having obtained wonders and marvels, what do you think, Shariputra? That man first showed those youths three kinds of vehicles, and later gave them all great vehicles, giving them excellent vehicles, would he be speaking falsely? Shariputra replied: Blessed One, it is not so. Well-gone One, it is not so. That man, by such skillful means, rescued those children from the burning house, and for the sake of saving their lives, therefore that man is not a miser. Why is that? Blessed One, by merely obtaining my body, one obtains all things to be played with. Just like this, Blessed One, even if that man did not give those youths a single cart, Blessed One, that man would not become a miser. Why is that? Blessed One, that man, from the very beginning, with skillful means, thinking, 'I will liberate these youths from the great heap of suffering.' In this way also, that man is not a miser. That man, I also have many storehouses, and also thinking the children are precious, wanting to give them good things, giving vehicles of matching color, giving great vehicles, what more need be said? Blessed One, that man is not a miser. Having answered thus, the Blessed One said to the venerable Shariputra: Shariputra, well done, well done. It is so, just as you have said. Shariputra, likewise, the Thus-gone One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, dispelling all fears, completely liberated from all harm, conflict, damage, suffering, discomfort, the darkness of ignorance, the dim obscurations of darkness, and complete entanglements, possessing the wisdom, power, fearlessness, and unshared qualities of a Buddha, with the power of miraculous abilities, extremely

Endowed with power, the father of the world. Having reached the other shore of the supreme wisdom, skilled in vast means. With great compassion, desiring to benefit with an unwearying mind. Endowed with loving-kindness, he appears in order to completely liberate those beings who are immersed and utterly entangled in the burning great mass of suffering of the three realms, like a burning house with collapsed beams and roof, experiencing birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, and agitation, and obscured and utterly shrouded by the darkness of ignorance, from desire, hatred, and delusion, and to establish them in the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment. As soon as he appears, beings are burned, boiled, tormented, and utterly tormented by birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, and agitation, and they intensely experience various kinds of suffering in the place of the cause of desire for the sake of enjoyment. For the sake of seeking and accumulating in this present life, in the next life beings intensely experience various kinds of suffering in the hells, the animal realm, and the realm of Yama. In the realms of gods and humans, they also intensely experience the suffering of poverty, ugliness, encountering misfortune, and separation from loved ones. They revolve in this very mass of suffering, enjoying play and pleasure, without fear, without dread, and without becoming bewildered. They are not ignorant, not dull, and do not become weary, not seeking a way out, but delighting in the three realms, which are like a burning house, and running to and fro within them. Even though they are afflicted by such a great mass of suffering, they do not generate the thought of regarding suffering as suffering. Shariputra, therefore, I am the father of these beings. I shall completely liberate these beings from such a great mass of suffering, and I shall cause these beings to play, laugh, enjoy pleasure, and frolic, and I shall bestow upon these beings the immeasurable and inconceivable bliss of the wisdom of the Buddha. Thus, the Tathagata sees. Shariputra, therefore, I am endowed with the power of wisdom.

If it is said to possess the power of miraculous abilities, if these sentient beings were to attain the Tathagata's wisdom vision, power, and fearlessness without skillful means, these sentient beings would not necessarily be liberated by these teachings. Why is that? Because these sentient beings are extremely attached to the five objects of desire, these sentient beings are extremely attached to the pleasures of the three realms, unable to escape from birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and turmoil, being burned, cooked, tormented, and completely tormented, just like the three realms that have not emerged from a house burning with a roof and flames. The Tathagata sees that, how can they enjoy the wisdom of the Buddha? Shariputra, for example, a strong man puts down his strength and skillfully rescues those youths from the burning house, and then gives them very good great vehicles. Shariputra, similarly, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Buddha, possessing the Tathagata's wisdom, power, and fearlessness, also puts down the Tathagata's wisdom, power, and fearlessness, and with skillful wisdom, in order to liberate sentient beings from the three realms, which are like a house burning with a roof and flames, teaches the three vehicles, namely the Hearer Vehicle, the Solitary Buddha Vehicle, and the Bodhisattva Vehicle. Guiding sentient beings with the three vehicles, he says to them: Do not delight in the evil objects of form, sound, smell, taste, and touch in the three realms, which are like a burning house. Because you are extremely attached to these three realms, you are tormented by the desire that possesses the five objects of desire, being burned, cooked, and completely tormented. Emerge from these three realms, namely, attain these three vehicles of the Hearer Vehicle, the Solitary Buddha Vehicle, and the Bodhisattva Vehicle. I am compassionate to you here, I will give you these three vehicles, emerge from the three realms.
