Third, the Chapter on Parables. Third, the Chapter on Parables. Volume Three. Then, the venerable Shariputra, being content, satisfied, delighted, and exceedingly joyful, having generated joy and ease of mind, bowed down with folded hands towards where the Blessed One was. In the presence of the Blessed One, he gazed intently at the Blessed One alone, and spoke thus to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, having heard such words from the Blessed One, I am amazed and astonished, and have obtained joy. What is the reason for this? Blessed One, I have also seen other Bodhisattvas, and the Bodhisattvas have also heard the names of the Buddhas of the future. But I have never heard such a Dharma from the Blessed One. I thought that I had missed such wisdom and vision of the Tathagata, and therefore I was very sad and very distressed. Blessed One, I always wandered around in order to dwell in secluded places in the mountains, valleys, forests, gardens, riverbanks, and under trees. Even at that time, the Blessed One was similarly entering the realm of Dharma. Blessed One, we, who are of inferior vehicle, thought that the Blessed One had certainly abandoned us, and we remained in such a state for a long time. Blessed One, that was our own fault, the Blessed One was not at fault. At that time, I thought like that. What is the reason for this? If the Blessed One had started from the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment and taught the supreme Dharma, if we could also hear it, Blessed One, we would also certainly attain this Dharma. Blessed One, when the Bodhisattvas had not gathered, the Blessed One spoke in a veiled manner, and we did not understand. We were eager to achieve quickly, and having heard the Dharma first spoken by the Tathagata, we grasped it, practiced it, contemplated it, and kept it in mind. Blessed One, because I regret it so much, I will become even more frequently weary. Blessed One, having heard such a wonderful Dharma, never heard before, from the Blessed One, Blessed One, today I have attained Nirvana, Blessed One, today I

It has become silent. Blessed One, today I am completely liberated from sorrow. Blessed One, today I have attained the Arhatship. Blessed One, today I am the eldest son of the Blessed One, the son of your heart, born from your mouth, born from the Dharma, an emanation of the Dharma, enjoying the share of the Dharma, accomplished by the Dharma. Today I am completely free from suffering. Then, the venerable Shariputra at that time spoke these verses to the Blessed One: Having heard this sound, joy greatly increased, Great Guide, I am amazed. I will never have any doubts again, I have fully matured in this supreme vehicle. The words of the Sugata are truly wonderful, eliminating the doubts and sorrows of beings. My defilements have also been exhausted, having heard your teachings, everything has been eliminated. Dwelling under the umbrella, conversing with each other, in the midst of forests, under the trees of temples, in the mountains and valleys, these thoughts are always remembered. In the undefiled Dharma, thus compared to the Dharma of the three realms, this is the most supreme. It will not be shown in the future, alas, I am deceived by the sinful mind. I am confused about the similar Dharmas, I have lost the thirty-two marks. The golden color also fully manifests, these powers and liberations have all been lost. The great Sage, the excellent marks, the most supreme eighty minor marks complete, and the eighteen unshared Dharmas, alas, we have lost and been deceived from them. Having seen you, the compassionate one who benefits the world, when going under the umbrella and dwelling alone, from the unattached, inconceivable wisdom, alas, I am deceived, I think in this way. Thus repeatedly thinking, doubts also arose about the protector, the umbrella, and the marks. Whether I have lost from this, or have not lost, I thought to ask the Blessed One for a moment. Having seen many other Bodhisattvas, praised by the guide of the world, Victorious One, I think in this way, the umbrella and the night are always like this. Undiscriminating wisdom, subtle and undefiled, the Victorious One said this is the essence of Bodhicitta, this is considered to be a euphemistic saying. Buddha Dharma
