As mentioned before, I will surely connect all beings of Jambudvipa with virtuous deeds. Later, for my own viewing, I came to the place of the garden. There, I saw a man bound tightly with strong ropes, tied backward. Having seen him, I asked the ministers: What has this man done? The ministers said to me: O god, this man has offended the god. Of the grain and crops that this man produces in a year, one-sixth is to be offered to the god. Just as the people of the god's villages, cities, and regions, and those who dwell in the mountain rocks, live by the end of their means through offerings, this man does not make offerings. I said to them: Release this man, and do not force anyone to collect wealth and grain. They said: O god, some people do not offer with very sincere devotion. Like a single umbrella, the god's food, drink, enjoyment, and use, as well as the enjoyment and use of the god's consorts, goddesses, sons, and daughters, all come from the offerings of others. No one will offer with a very willing heart. Then I became very unhappy and thought: To whom should I give this entire dominion of Jambudvipa? I had five hundred sons, and I made them all embrace perfect and complete enlightenment. I also divided this Jambudvipa into five hundred parts and gave them to my sons. Then I went to the forest of asceticism. In the manner of a sage's renunciation, I practiced celibacy, living in a forest not far from the great southern ocean, eating the roots and fruits of the forest, meditating under the Udumbara tree, and eventually attained the five supernormal cognitions. Also at that time, five hundred merchants of Jambudvipa entered the great ocean. They also found many piles of jewels from there. There, a captain named Chandra, who was a fortunate and wise man, also

Having obtained the wish-fulfilling jewel, they returned from that jewel island with a vast heap of precious jewels and the wish-fulfilling jewel. Then the ocean also churned, the nagas were also angered, and the gods who dwelt there also wept. Then, a bodhisattva named Righteous Exhalation, also born there by the power of previous aspirations, that great-hearted being rescued those travelers from the great ocean in peace and auspiciousness. A wicked rakshasa, retaliating and looking for an opportunity, also followed those travelers. Then, for seven days, there was a violent wind and rain, causing those merchants to completely lose their way. They were very frightened, crying out loudly, wailing, and praying to the gods, kumbhandas, water gods, and evil spirits. My divine ear heard them crying out, "Fathers, mothers, and wretched children!" I went to where they were lost and said to the merchants, "Do not fear! Do not fear! I will show you the way, and I will bring you to Jambudvipa in peace and auspiciousness." I comforted those merchants. At that time, I smeared and wrapped my hand with sesame oil and set it ablaze, speaking words of truth: "If I have dwelt in the forest for twenty-six years with the four brahmaviharas for the sake and benefit of sentient beings, eating the roots and fruits of the forest, and have fully ripened the minds of eighty-four thousand nagas and yakshas, and have placed them in the irreversible state of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, then, by this truth and words of truth, and by the complete maturation of virtuous roots, may my hand burn and the merchants find the way, and may they go to Jambudvipa in peace and auspiciousness!" I spoke the words of truth, and my hand burned day and night for seven days, placing those merchants in Jambudvipa. There I made the aspiration: "If at any time there are no more jewels in Jambudvipa, then I..."

If I were to awaken to the Unsurpassed, Perfect, and Complete Enlightenment, may this aspiration of mine be completely fulfilled! May I become a merchant leader in Jambudvipa, obtaining wish-fulfilling jewels seven times, and may a rain of various precious things manifestly fall upon all the continents of this Buddha-field. Likewise, in the ten directions, in Buddha-fields filled with the five degenerations, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, may a rain of various precious things manifestly fall, just as previously mentioned. Having made this aspiration, my wish was completely fulfilled, and until countless great kalpas, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, had passed, I became a merchant leader. In the Buddha-fields filled with the five degenerations, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, I caused a rain of precious things to fall, and on each continent, I caused a rain of various precious things to manifestly fall seven times. In this way, countless and immeasurable sentient beings had their wishes completely fulfilled by the precious things, and they were certainly connected to the three vehicles. Son of good family, behold the characteristic of the complete ripening of the roots of virtue from the Tathagata's giving of precious things. Son of good family, furthermore, after countless kalpas had passed, when a kalpa called "Joyful" arose, this Buddha-field became known as "Dim," filled with the five degenerations, and when beings had a lifespan of five thousand years, through the power of aspiration, I became a Brahmin who recited the Vedas, named "Sun Garland Fragrance," in this Jambudvipa. At that time, most sentient beings clung to permanence, harbored resentment, and were engaged in oppressing others and dwelling in conflict. With the great power of suppressing others, I taught the Dharma to those beings, practicing the aggregates as if they were enemies. I also taught them to individually examine the twelve sense bases as if they were empty cities, as well as the arising and ceasing of dependent origination, and the mindfulness of breathing in and out, so that they might attain the Unsurpassed, Perfect, and Complete
