In order to make sentient beings completely weary of the cycle of existence and to initiate special diligence, therefore, it is taught to them in this way, saying that the Tathāgatas are not like the easily seen udumbara flower, but it is said in order to make them initiate the diligence of being difficult to see. Sometimes, seeing the beings to be tamed, it is said that the Tathāgatas are very difficult to see, like the udumbara flower. The udumbara flower is one that no one has seen, will not see, and will not be seen in the future. The Tathāgata is seen by all beings in the world. In order to establish one's own rule, it is not the case that it is said that the appearance of the Tathāgatas is like the udumbara flower. Great wisdom, establishing one's own rule is beyond the thoughts of worldly people, therefore those childish ordinary people will not believe. The realm of activity of the wisdom of the noble ones who are self-aware has no analogy. Precisely because of this, the Tathāgata is beyond mind, intellect, and consciousness, therefore it is not appropriate to use the characteristics that can be seen as an analogy. Great wisdom, however, there is no fault in my saying that the Tathāgatas are like the sands of the Ganges, using this analogy. Great wisdom, for example, the sands of the Ganges are harassed and stirred by fish, turtles, dolphins, lions, elephants, horses, humans, and wild animals, but the sand does not think in this way, these things have harassed me, it does not make distinctions, because its nature is completely pure and it is not stained by impurities. Similarly, the powers, superknowledges, and faculties, etc., which are like the sands in the great Ganges River of the self-aware noble wisdom of the Tathāgata Arhat Samyaksaṃbuddha, are also harassed and stirred by all the non-Buddhists, humans, and wild animals, etc., but the Tathāgata has no thoughts, therefore distinctions do not arise. The Tathāgata is extremely secluded, without the consciousness of thoughts, and is

Because of the past aspirations of the Tathagata, in order to make sentient beings rejoice in the bliss of samadhi, he does not think that he has been harmed, so (the Tathagata) is the same as the sands of the Ganges, without any difference. Furthermore, because he has completely abandoned desire, anger, and ignorance. For example, the sands of the Ganges are the nature of the earth element, even if the fire at the end of the kalpa burns everything, the great earth element will not abandon its nature, because it arises together with the fire element. Otherwise, ignorant children would think that (the sand) has been burned, but in reality it will not be burned, because it is the cause of the fire element. Similarly, great wisdom, the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata, is also indestructible like the sands of the Ganges. Great wisdom, for example, the sands of the Ganges are countless. Similarly, the rays of light of the Tathagatas are also countless, in order to fully ripen sentient beings, all Buddhas make all the mandalas of the retinue universally visible. Great wisdom, for example, the sands of the Ganges, if you look for other different sands, you will never find them. Similarly, great wisdom, the Tathagata Arhat Samyak-sambuddha also has no cycle of existence, no birth and no death, because the cause and conditions of existence have been cut off. Great wisdom, for example, the sands of the Ganges, it is impossible to know their increase and decrease. Similarly, great wisdom, the wisdom of the Tathagata, in order to fully ripen sentient beings, does not increase or decrease, because it is not the nature of the body. The nature of the body is destructible, but the Dharmakaya of the Tathagata is not the nature of the body. For example, even if you squeeze the sands of the Ganges very hard, you will not see butter. Similarly, even if all the great suffering that harms sentient beings causes harm to the Tathagata, (the Tathagata) will not abandon the Dharmadhatu until sentient beings are completely liberated from suffering, because of his own samadhi, the bliss of aspiration, and great compassion.

Mahamati, for example, the sands of the Ganges River flow along with the current of the water. It is not possible without water. Similarly, Mahamati, all the Dharmas taught by the Tathagatas also flow along with the current of Nirvana. Therefore, it is said to be like the sands of the Ganges River. The Tathagata does not follow sentient beings, because following and flowing means destruction. Mahamati, because it is impossible to know the beginning and end of Samsara, if one does not know, how can one speak of flowing? Mahamati, the meaning of flowing is annihilation, which is not understood by ordinary people. Mahamati asked the Bhagavan: "Bhagavan, if sentient beings cannot know the beginning and end of Samsara, how can they comprehend liberation?" The Bhagavan replied: "Mahamati, when the causes of the beginningless habits of conceptual proliferation and the habitual tendencies of discrimination cease, and one sees only the manifestation of one's own mind, then one knows. The transformation of the state of external objects and discrimination is called liberation, not destruction. Therefore, what is called 'without end' is not that there is nothing, but because of those discriminations, there are names such as 'without end.' If one carefully observes both inside and outside, there are no other different sentient beings apart from discrimination. Therefore, knowledge, the object of knowledge, and all Dharmas are completely tranquil, because one has not fully understood the discrimination of the manifestation of one's own mind. Therefore, discrimination arises. If one fully understands it, it will cease." Then, the Bhagavan, in order to explain that meaning again, spoke these verses: If the guides observe carefully, they are like the sands of the Ganges River. There is no destruction, no flowing, and it is not without end. That is through equality, to observe the Tathagatas. Like the sands of the Ganges River, etc., completely abandoning all faults, entering the constant stream, and the nature is constant. That is the Buddha becoming a Buddha.
