And, the path of yoga that is not common to all non-Buddhists, the ten paths of the noble family, and the body, wisdom, mind-born, and non-manifesting samadhi will be fully attained. Therefore, Mahamati Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, especially those who desire it, should practice the Tathagatagarbha Alaya-vijnana. Mahamati, if there is no Alaya-vijnana, then the so-called Tathagatagarbha will also have no birth or death. Mahamati, however, ordinary people and noble ones have birth and death, so yogis should not abandon the practice of entering the self-realization wisdom of each noble one and abiding in the Dharma that is seen. Mahamati, this Tathagatagarbha Alaya-vijnana, although it is pure in nature, is seen as impure by all Sravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and those with deluded views because it is obscured by sudden afflictions, but not by the Tathagatas. Mahamati, the Tathagata is the object of direct perception, like seeing an Amalaka fruit in the palm of one's hand. Mahamati, I have explained this meaning separately by the power of miraculous abilities for the sake of the nun Garland and other Bodhisattvas who are sharp in wisdom and perfect, and have taught that the Tathagatagarbha Alaya-vijnana arises simultaneously with the seven consciousnesses. Because the Sravakas are attached to the view of the non-self of persons, the nun Garland explained the object of the Tathagata by the power of the Buddha's blessing, which is not the object of the Sravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and non-Buddhists. Mahamati, the Tathagatagarbha Alaya-vijnana is only the object of the Tathagata, and other wise Bodhisattvas who are sharp in wisdom and rely on meaning. Therefore, Mahamati, you and the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva

O, others should diligently strive and study the Tathagatagarbha, the Alaya-consciousness, and should not think that merely hearing and understanding is enough. Then, the Blessed One, in order to explain that meaning again, spoke these verses: The profound Tathagatagarbha, together with the seven consciousnesses, the two co-emergent ones enter simultaneously, the wise should completely abandon. Like an image in a mirror, the appearance of the mind, habits have been cultivated since beginningless time. If one fully realizes it as it is, things are not things. Just as a child grasps the fingertip, and does not look at the moon, similarly those who are attached to letters, will not truly see me. The mind exists like a dancer, the mind is like the sound of a drum, the five consciousnesses are like friends, and the discriminations watch all kinds of dances. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahamati asked the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, please explain the characteristics of the distinctions of the five dharmas, self-nature, consciousness, and the two non-selves, so that I and other Bodhisattvas can connect the order of all the grounds, and distinguish these dharmas, and thus follow all the Buddha-dharmas, and following all the Buddha-dharmas, we can enter the self-realized ground of the Tathagata. The Blessed One said: Mahamati, listen well and keep it in mind. The Bodhisattva Mahamati reported to the Blessed One: So be it, we wish to hear. The Blessed One said: Mahamati, the characteristics of the distinction and entry of the five dharmas, self-nature, consciousness, and the two non-selves are as follows: name, meaning, discrimination, true wisdom, and suchness. When yogis practice, they can enter the excellent state of the Tathagata's self-realized wisdom, abandon views such as permanence, annihilation, existence, and non-existence, and abide in the Dharma that is seen, and it will manifest. Mahamati

On the great earth, there are five things: nature, consciousness, two kinds of selflessness, the appearance of one's own mind, and external objects. Because ordinary beings do not understand these, they engage in discrimination, while the noble ones do not. Mahamati asked the Blessed One: "Blessed One, why do ordinary beings generate discrimination, while the noble ones do not?" The Blessed One replied: "Mahamati, ordinary beings cling to conventional names and reasons, and therefore follow their minds. After following, because they desire various forms and colors, and their minds are filled with attachment to self and others, they cling to beautiful things. Because of clinging, and being obscured by ignorance, they generate strong attachment. Once strong attachment arises, they accumulate karma arising from desire, hatred, and delusion. After accumulating karma, they are bound by discrimination. Just as a silkworm spins a cocoon and binds itself, they are immersed in the ocean of samsara, like the turning of a water wheel. Therefore, because of ignorance, they do not understand that illusions, mirages, and the moon in water are empty in nature, and unrelated to self and others, thus generating all kinds of false discriminations. They do not understand that the nature of all things, the basis of nature, arising, and destruction all originate from the discrimination of one's own mind, and are not produced by external factors such as Ishvara, time, or atoms. Therefore, ordinary beings follow names and reasons. Mahamati, the so-called reason is what is perceived by the consciousness of the eye, which is called form. Similarly, what is perceived by the consciousness of the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind are called sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharma, respectively. This is the so-called reason. Mahamati, discrimination is what makes the characteristics of things manifest by giving them various names. It is no different from the nature of things, such as elephants, horses, and vehicles."
