If one clings to permanence and impermanence, faults will arise. If the wisdom of discrimination is exhausted, then the immature ordinary beings' views on permanence and impermanence cannot be pacified, and they will completely abandon them. Therefore, wise people should diligently abandon permanence and impermanence, as well as all attachments that are neither permanent nor impermanent. Then, the Bhagavan, in order to further explain that meaning, spoke these verses: If gatherings become meaningless, faults of permanence and impermanence arise. If the wisdom of discrimination is absent, both permanence and impermanence are completely abandoned. If the supreme meaning can be well guarded, separation and mixture will have meaning. If one realizes that one's own mind is only equality, there is no object for verbal expression. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahamati again asked the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, please explain to me again the arising and ceasing of the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas. If there is no self in them, then who will arise and who will cease? Because immature ordinary beings cling to arising and ceasing, they do not understand the cessation of suffering, nor can they well comprehend nirvana. The Bhagavan replied: Good! Therefore, listen well, and I will explain it to you. The Bodhisattva Mahamati reported to the Bhagavan: As you teach, I will listen. The Bhagavan said to the Bodhisattva Mahamati: The Tathagatagarbha is the cause of good and non-good, and it pervades all beings' lives. Like a dancer, it shows the various changes of beings. Because of not understanding the absence of self and what belongs to self, it arises from the union of the three conditions, and the heretics, because of not understanding, cling to the maker. From beginningless time, what is completely perfumed by the habit of false discrimination and evil karma is called the Alaya-vijnana. It is the place where ignorance resides, and it arises together with the seven consciousnesses. Like ocean waves, the body constantly arises, and the continuum is uninterrupted. It is free from the faults of permanence and impermanence, and it speaks of self.

Completely abandoned, naturally stainless, and ultimately completely pure. The consciousnesses that are different from this have arising and ceasing. Mind and mind consciousness, etc., possessing seven moments, take on various shapes and places of objects due to the cause of unreal complete conceptualization, clinging to names and reasons, not comprehending the nature of the form that appears to one's own mind, and because of not understanding suffering and happiness, they will not reach the state of liberation. Attachment, which is completely entangled by names and reasons, arises, and after attachment arises, it becomes the cause and object. If those sense faculties cease, then gradually they will not arise. Furthermore, due to the conceptualization of one's own mind, not understanding suffering and happiness, therefore entering into the meditative absorption of the cessation of feeling and perception, and after entering into meditative absorption, attaining the fourth dhyana. Yogis who are skilled in the true truth and liberation regard it as the consciousness of liberation. That which has not been completely abandoned and completely transformed is called the Tathagatagarbha Alaya-vijñana. The seven consciousnesses flow in samsara without ceasing. Why is that? Because from its cause and object, various consciousnesses arise. That which is not the domain of the Sravakas and Pratyekabuddha yogis, and because of not understanding selflessness, therefore generating the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas that are included by their own characteristics and general characteristics. When the Tathagatagarbha is realized, the five dharmas, nature, sentient beings, and dharma-selflessness will cease. Because the connection of the stages of the ground becomes special, therefore it cannot be shaken by the views of other non-Buddhists, and this is called abiding in the immovable ground of the Bodhisattva. One will obtain the ten paths of the gate of bliss of samadhi. Because of completely grasping samadhi with wisdom, one is able to separately understand the inconceivable Buddha-dharma, and one does not accept the bliss of the gate of samadhi with one's own aspirations, and does not abide in the true extreme, but rather tends towards the self-realization of the noble ones, as well as the Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas.
