Nor will it fall into conceptualization that is manifestly attached to the characteristics of essence, nor is it that it does not generate the cause of the Buddhadharma, because with the arising of wisdom, one will attain the realm of self-awareness of the Tathagata. For example, when a person in a dream tries to cross a river, he wakes up before reaching the other shore. After waking up, he thinks: Is this real? Or is it not real? That thought is neither real nor false. On the other hand, from beginningless seeing, hearing, distinguishing, and the habitual patterns of various streams of consciousness, and falling into the characteristics of shapes, various places, and existence and non-existence, and appearing from the dreams of mind, intellect, and consciousness. Great wisdom, likewise, Bodhisattva Mahasattvas also see the characteristics of thought arising on the eighth Bodhisattva ground, and from the first ground onwards, they strive, transfer to the seventh ground, and through the practice of seeing all dharmas as illusion, etc., and similar practices, they are released from the thinking actions of the grasping and the grasped mind, and through the practice of the Buddhadharma, they cause what has not yet been attained to be attained. Great wisdom, this is the indestructible Nirvana practice of the Bodhisattvas, and after completely abandoning mind, intellect, and consciousness, they will attain forbearance of the unarisen dharma. Great wisdom, in ultimate truth, there is no order or connection, and what is taught is the dharma that is separate from appearance and thought. Then, the Bhagavan, in order to explain that meaning again, spoke these verses: Mind-only and no appearance, this place and the Buddha-ground, past and future present, spoken by the Buddhas of the three times. The mind-only ground is the seventh ground, no appearance is the eighth ground, these two grounds are called the abode, the Buddha-ground is supreme. Self-aware wisdom is extremely pure, that is my ground. Freedom and the supreme place, thinking and well-arranged, like a burning lamp, light universally appears. The light burns

With eyes that do not fail. Taming all in the three realms. Showing the abiding in the three realms through emanations. Some are emanations from the beginning. There, they show all the vehicles. All are the position of the Tathagata. The ten grounds are the first. The first is the eighth. The ninth is also the seventh. The seventh is also the eighth. The second is the third. The fourth is also the fifth. The third is also the sixth. Without appearance, what order is there? Thus it is said in the precious Sutra of the Descent into Lanka. The eighth fascicle, the last. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Mahamati asked the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, is the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, permanent? Or is he impermanent? The Blessed One said: Mahamati, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha, is neither permanent nor impermanent. Because both have faults. If it becomes permanent, there will be the fault of having an agent. The heretics say that the permanent is not made by an agent. Therefore, the Tathagata is not permanent, because the permanent that is not made will have faults. If the Tathagata is impermanent, there will be the fault of impermanence with an agent. Since there is no nature of the aggregates and no basis of the nature, there is a possibility of annihilation like the destruction of the aggregates. The Tathagata will not be annihilated. Mahamati, if all that is made is impermanent, then like pots and blankets, everything will have the fault of impermanence. The collection of all knowledge and the combinations will become meaningless. Because it is made. All that is made will become the Tathagata, because there is no object of different causes. Therefore, the Tathagata is neither permanent nor impermanent. Furthermore, Mahamati, the Tathagata is not permanent like the sky. If it is permanent like the sky, then the collections of individual awareness and noble wisdom will become meaningless. Mahamati,

Therefore, space is neither permanent nor impermanent, because it has abandoned the faults of permanence and impermanence, oneness and otherness, both and neither, and permanence and impermanence, so it is unspeakable. Therefore, the Tathagata is not permanent. Furthermore, Mahamati, if the Tathagata were an unoriginated permanent, then he would be like the horns of rabbits and horses, etc., and would become an unoriginated permanent. All efforts would become meaningless, because it would become the fault of an unoriginated permanent. Therefore, the Tathagata is not permanent. Furthermore, Mahamati, there are also cases where the Tathagata is known to be permanent through other things. What is the reason for this? For example, because the uninterruptedly realized wisdom is permanent, therefore the Tathagata is permanent. Mahamati, whether the Tathagata appears in the world or does not appear in the world, the Dharma-nature is necessarily abiding. The uninterrupted abode of the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Tathagatas does not exist in space, nor is it to be understood by individual ordinary people. Mahamati, the wisdom realized by the Tathagatas is completely imbued with wisdom, Mahamati, the Tathagata is not completely imbued with mind, intellect, consciousness, aggregates, elements, and sense bases. Mahamati, all three realms arise from false discrimination, but the Tathagatas do not arise from false discrimination. Mahamati, because there are two dharmas, there will be permanence and impermanence, but not for non-duality. Non-duality is extremely tranquil. Because all dharmas are of the nature of non-duality and non-origination. Therefore, the Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas, are neither permanent nor impermanent. Mahamati, as much as the discrimination of language arises, that much
