And, if one comprehends the categories of words and possesses the meaning of things, then, it satisfies oneself with the bliss of true absence of characteristics, and also establishes beings in the equality of the Great Vehicle. Great wisdom, if one fully upholds the Great Vehicle, then one will fully uphold the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Śrāvakas. Because of fully upholding the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Śrāvakas, therefore one will fully uphold all beings. Because of fully upholding all beings, therefore one will fully uphold the sacred Dharma. Because of fully upholding the sacred Dharma, therefore one will not cut off the lineage of the Buddhas. Not cutting off the lineage of the Buddhas, one will obtain the knowledge of entering a special state. Bodhisattva-Mahāsattvas who have obtained the knowledge of entering a special state are constantly born miraculously, and because of skillfully establishing the Great Vehicle, they fully manifest various forms with the power of the ten freedoms, because of comprehending the conduct, inclinations, and nature of afflictions of beings, they teach the Dharma as it truly is. Among them, what is called teaching as it truly is, is non-different from Suchness, having the nature of no coming and going, all elaborations are pacified, that is called Suchness. Great wisdom, sons or daughters of good families, should uphold the sound as it is, and should not be attached to it, because Suchness is separated from names and letters. Great wisdom, just as if someone points out an object with a fingertip to some fools, that fool looks at the fingertip, therefore he cannot obtain the true meaning. Similarly, ordinary people also hold onto the fingertip of the sound as it is, and are attached to it, not abandoning it until death, therefore not abandoning the fingertip of the sound as it is, they cannot obtain the ultimate Suchness. Great wisdom, for example, young children, regarding what has been made into food and what has not been made into food,

From the race of... if one eats uncooked food, it will cause diseases of the lower body, because one does not understand the principle that food should be cooked gradually. Similarly, great wisdom, although without arising or ceasing, will not become beautiful if it is not manifested through skillful means. Therefore, one should strive to manifest great wisdom through skillful means, and not follow after sounds like looking at the tip of one's finger. Therefore, one should strive to manifest great wisdom for the sake of its true meaning. That true meaning is utter solitude, the cause of nirvana. Sound is in accordance with conceptualization. Conceptualization is the gathering of samsara. For great wisdom, the meaning of suchness is obtained from much learning. Much learning of great wisdom is like this: being skilled in meaning, but not skilled in sound. One who is skilled in meaning does not follow after all the assertions of the tirthikas, does not follow after himself, and does not allow others to follow after him, this is called possessing the merit of great learning. Therefore, those who desire meaning should rely on much learning, just like being skilled in meaning. Those who are attached to sound, on the other hand, should be completely abandoned. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahamati, through the blessing of the Buddha, said this to the Bhagavan: "Bhagavan, there is nothing wonderful in distinguishing between what is unborn and what is unceasing. Why is that? Because the tirthikas also say that the cause is unborn and unceasing."

The causes and conditions of things are also the same. Therefore, the Blessed One's teachings would be no different from those of the non-Buddhists. The non-Buddhists also say that atoms, the primary substance, Ishvara, the lord of beings, and so on, along with the nine substances, are unborn and unceasing. The Blessed One also said that all things are unborn and unceasing, therefore existence and non-existence are not perceived. The non-Buddhists also say that the four great elements are indestructible, therefore their nature is unborn and unceasing. These four great elements are the eternal great elements, pervading all beings, but do not abandon their nature. The Blessed One also said the same. Therefore, I say that this is not surprising. Blessed One, please explain the difference between you and the non-Buddhists, you who are so rare and transcendent. If there is no difference, then the non-Buddhists would also become Buddhas, because they also say that there is no birth and no cessation. The Blessed One also said that it is impossible for many Buddhas to appear in one world at the same time. If we connect what you said, then many Buddhas would appear in one world, because there is no difference. The Blessed One said to Mahamati: The unborn and unceasing that I speak of is not the same as the unborn and unceasing of the non-Buddhists. Why is that? Because the non-Buddhists believe that things have inherent existence, therefore they are unborn and unceasing, and do not attain an unchanging nature. But I am not like that, falling into the extremes of existence and non-existence. Mahamati, I am free from the extremes of existence and non-existence, free from birth and death, neither a thing nor a non-thing. Because they appear like various forms in illusions and dreams, they are also not non-things. How can they be non-things? For example, the nature of form has no essence, and the objects that are grasped both appear and do not appear.
