Then, both would be flawed. Mahamati, if the Tathagata is considered to be either an entity or not an entity, he would become impermanent. Because of impermanence, all things would also become Tathagatas. Therefore, neither I nor all the Tathagatas approve of that. If it is not created, then because there is no object, efforts would become meaningless, like a rabbit's horn and a barren woman's son, because they do not exist. Mahamati, that which has neither entity nor cause is neither existent nor non-existent. That which is neither existent nor non-existent is beyond the four extremes. What are the four extremes? They are the expressions of the world. That which is beyond the four extremes does not fall into the four extremes. Because it does not fall, the wise accept it. All Tathagatas should also understand the meaning of words in that way. Mahamati, those with wisdom should understand the meaning of what I have said, "All dharmas are without self." The object of no-self is no-self itself, and all dharmas exist in their own entity, not in the entity of others, just like a cow and a horse. Mahamati, for example, for something that is not the entity of a cow and a horse, the entity of a cow and a horse is neither truly existent nor non-existent. And it is not without its own characteristic. Similarly, Mahamati, all dharmas are not without their own characteristic, although they have their own characteristic, individual ordinary people cannot understand no-self, because they thus discriminate. Similarly, all dharmas, emptiness, non-arising, and no-self-nature should also be understood in that way. Similarly, the Tathagata is neither different from the skandhas, nor the same as the skandhas. If he is not different from the skandhas, he would become impermanent. If he is different, then efforts would become meaningless. If it becomes two, it becomes different, just like a cow's horn, because it is similar, it is not different, and because there is a difference in length, it is not different, all dharmas.
