Since there are no treatises on right conduct, those worldly sophists extensively display the countless doors of things, but they do not have their own right conduct, and they are foolish and ignorant, but they do not know that they are worldly sophists. Then, Mahamati asked the Blessed One, saying: "Blessed One, if the heretical worldly sophists connect with collections of words, reasons, and various metaphors, but do not have their own right conduct, and are attached to their own things, then, Blessed One, you also show the worldly sophists, like this retinue gathered from various different directions, gods, humans, asuras, etc., speaking extensively with various countless collections of words, isn't that also without its own right conduct? Isn't it also in the category of heretical knowledge and verbal expression?" The Blessed One said: "Mahamati, I am not speaking of worldly sophistry, because there is no coming and going, only showing no coming and no going. Mahamati, what is called coming is born from the gathering of actions. What is called going is complete destruction. No going and no coming is neither birth nor death. Mahamati, the dharmas I speak of do not fall into worldly sophistry, nor do they belong to the category of discrimination. Why is that? Like this, not being attached to external things and no things, just abiding in the appearance of one's own mind, not being moved by the discrimination of two extremes, for the realm of characteristics there are no things, and understanding that one's own mind is just an appearance, so the discrimination of the appearance of one's own mind does not arise. Not generating discrimination is entering the three doors of liberation: emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, so it is called liberation. Mahamati, I clearly remember that once when I was in a certain place, a Brahmin worldly sophist came to me, without asking if I was well, he said to me: 'Hey, Gautama, is everything done?' At that time, I

In Sanskrit, this is called "Brahmin, all is done," this is the first world-affirming extremist. He also asked: Is all undone? I replied: All is not done, this is the second world-affirming extremist. He also asked: Is all permanent? Is all impermanent? Is all born? Is all unborn? I then replied: Those are the sixth world-affirming extremists. Great Wisdom, he also asked: Is all one? Is all different? Is all two? Is all not two? Is all the appearance arising from various causes? I then replied: Those are the eleventh world-affirming extremists. Great Wisdom, he also asked: Is all unexplainable? Is all explainable? Is there a self? Is there no self? Does this world exist? Does the other world exist? Does the other world not exist? Does liberation exist? Does liberation not exist? Is all momentary? Is all not momentary? Is it space? Is it non-discriminating cessation? Is it Nirvana? O Gautama, is it done? Is it not done? Does the intermediate state exist? Does the intermediate state not exist? Great Wisdom, I then said: Brahmin, all those who speak like that are world-affirming extremists, not taught by me, but your world-affirming extremism. Brahmin, from beginningless time, I only show that the evil deeds caused by the various habits of unreal discrimination are the cause of the three existences, and that because one has not understood that one's own mind is only appearance, discrimination arises and clings to external objects. I am not like the non-Buddhists who believe that knowledge arises from the aggregation of self, faculties, and objects. Brahmin, I am neither a proponent of causality nor a proponent of non-causality, but rather a proponent of the interdependence of merely the objects of grasping and the grasped by discrimination.
