Thus it was declared. Mahamati, there are three kinds of mind-made bodies. What are the three? They are: the mind-made body that enters into the bliss of samadhi, the mind-made body that realizes the nature of Dharma, and the co-emergent mind-made body that requires no effort. Yogis, from the first bhumi onwards, gradually understand the nature of each bhumi, and thus they will obtain these three bodies. Mahamati, what is the mind-made body that enters into the bliss of samadhi? It is when one is in the third, fourth, and fifth bhumis, and in order to enter into the bliss of samadhi, one's own mind practices in various kinds of solitude, dwells in the ocean of mind, and the nature of the waves of consciousness does not arise. One's own mind fully understands the objects of appearance, both existent and nonexistent. This is called the mind-made body that enters into the bliss of samadhi. Mahamati, what is the mind-made body that realizes the nature of Dharma? It is when one is in the eighth bhumi, and one completely understands that phenomena such as illusion do not appear. The body and mind undergo a transformation, and one obtains the samadhi of illusion. Furthermore, one obtains immeasurable doors of samadhi, signs, powers, authorities, and superknowledges. One blossoms like a flower and is as swift as thought. Like illusion, like dream, like moon in water, like reflection, although not made of arising, it is similar to being made of arising. The limbs are adorned with all kinds of perfect forms. One follows the wheel of retinue in all Buddha-fields. In order to understand and realize the nature of Dharma, this is called the body born from realizing the nature of Dharma. Mahamati, what is the co-emergent mind-made body that requires no effort? It is when one realizes all the Buddha-dharmas and focuses on the nature of the bliss that one has obtained. This is the co-emergent mind-made

It is called the mind-born body of no action. Mahamati, one should strive to understand the distinctions of the characteristics of these three bodies. Then, the Blessed One, in order to truly show that meaning, spoke these verses: I do not speak of the Lesser Vehicle as the Great Vehicle, there is no exposition and no letters, it is not truth, not liberation, nor is it without an object of practice. However, the Great Vehicle is the vehicle, it has power over samadhi, and the various bodies born of mind are adorned with the flowers of power. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahamati said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, as you said, for any son or daughter of good family, even if they commit the five heinous crimes, they will not fall into the Avici hell, and in order to greatly generate joy, please truly reveal the emanations born of blessings. Those who have committed the deeds of the five heinous crimes are not necessarily certain not to attain realization, if they understand that their own mind is merely an appearance, and are free from the discrimination of body and enjoyment, and from the attachment to self and what belongs to self, and if they meet a spiritual friend in the midst of their busy lives, they will be liberated from the discrimination of transferring to another place, but not otherwise. Then, the Blessed One, in order to show that meaning again, spoke these verses: The existence of desire is called mother, ignorance is father, object-knowing consciousness is Buddha, habitual tendencies are Arhat, the aggregation of the five aggregates is Sangha. If the five heinous crimes are gradually cut off, then these are the five heinous crimes, and one will not fall into Avici hell. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahamati said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, please tell me about the Buddhahood of the Buddhas. Blessed One, what is the Buddhahood of the Buddhas? The Blessed One said: Mahamati, it is understanding the selflessness of persons and the selflessness of phenomena, completely knowing and understanding the two obscurations, being free from the two kinds of death and transference, and abandoning the two kinds of afflictions.
