So, what is the mind that is established due to clinging to oneself? For example, by clinging to the nature of discrimination, one determines that hardness, moisture, warmth, and movement are not the true nature of discrimination, but rather the four great elements, and by clinging to reasons and metaphors, one establishes them with untrue establishments. This is called the mind of establishing by clinging to the nature of discrimination, and it is the nature of two kinds of minds. If a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva possesses the nature of these two minds, he will understand the nature of the selflessness of persons and phenomena, become proficient in the mind of non-appearance, and by thoroughly comprehending separately on the ground of practice, he will attain the first ground, entering into a hundred samadhis. He will also attain the samadhi of non-differentiation. He will also see a hundred Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. He will enter into the objects of the past and future for a hundred kalpas. He will also illuminate a hundred Buddha-fields with light. Knowing the nature of the grounds from higher to lower, he will have power over transformation by means of special great aspirations, and will be empowered by the empowerment of the clouds of Dharma. Thus, having attained the ground of self-realization of the Tathagatas, he will ultimately become a Dharma fully endowed with the ten grounds. In order to fully ripen sentient beings, he will be adorned with various emanated rays of light, and will also attain the samadhi of equanimity with the bliss of self-realization. Furthermore, the Mahamati Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should also be proficient in the four great elements and what is transformed from the four great elements. How then does a Bodhisattva become proficient in the four great elements and what is transformed from the four great elements? Mahamati, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should thoroughly comprehend correctly in this way: In the ultimate truth, the four great elements are without arising. One should thus comprehend that the four great elements are without arising. Having thoroughly comprehended in this way, names and reasons are merely discriminations, merely appearances of one's own mind, and external objects are not real.

Manifestation is merely the conceptualization of one's own mind's appearance. For example, if one thoroughly examines the arising of the three realms and the things that arise from them, one will see that their essence is free from the four extremes, pure in nature, free from self and what belongs to self, the true characteristic abiding in the form of its own characteristic, and manifesting as the characteristic of non-origination. Mahamati, how do the four great elements give rise to forms that are caused by them? For example, the great element that conceptualizes moisture gives rise to the inner and outer water element. The great element that conceptualizes the ability to act gives rise to the inner and outer fire element. The great element that conceptualizes movement gives rise to the inner and outer wind element. The great element that conceptualizes divisibility gives rise to the inner and outer earth element. Because of attachment to the inverted truth of both form and emptiness, the aggregation of the five skandhas, the great elements, and what arises from the great elements are produced. Mahamati, consciousness becomes the cause for connecting to other beings because of attachment to various places and objects. Mahamati, the four great elements, such as earth, and what arises from the great elements, are the support of the four great elements, but not the cause of the four great elements. Why is that? For example, because things, shapes, characteristics, places, actions, and combinations are without substance, the great elements do not arise. Mahamati, things, shapes, characteristics, places, actions, and combinations arise from aggregation, so they are not without shape. Therefore, Mahamati, the characteristics of the great elements and what arises from the great elements are the conceptualizations of the non-Buddhists, not my view. Furthermore, Mahamati, I will explain in detail the characteristics of the self-nature of the skandhas. What is the self-nature of the skandhas like? For example, the five skandhas. What are the five skandhas? For example, form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness.
