Just as the mist has not completely cleared. Furthermore, Mahamati, because there is no dharma similar to illusion, all dharmas appear like illusions. Mahamati asked the Blessed One: Blessed One, is it because of attachment to the characteristics of various illusions that all dharmas are like illusions? Or is it because of attachment to separate characteristics? If it is because of attachment to the characteristics of various illusions that all things are like illusions, then, Blessed One, things will become like illusions. Why is that? Because the characteristics of various forms are not without cause, and Blessed One, there is no cause that makes the characteristics of various forms appear like illusions. Blessed One, therefore, attachment to the characteristics of various illusions is not in accordance with the Dharma, so things are not like illusions. The Blessed One said: Mahamati, although attachment to the characteristics of various illusions is not in accordance with the Dharma, so all dharmas are not like illusions, but Mahamati, all dharmas are not real, because they quickly disappear like lightning, so they are called like illusions. Mahamati, for example, lightning appears in an instant, and after appearing, it disappears, and even children cannot perceive it. Similarly, all dharmas also appear from their respective discriminations of self-characteristics and general characteristics, and from attachment to form. Then, the Blessed One, in order to explain that meaning again, spoke this verse: Whether or not it accords with illusion, Things are therefore called illusions. Not real, like lightning, Therefore it is said to be like an illusion. Mahamati again asked the Blessed One: Thus, Blessed One, you said that all things are unborn and like illusions. Blessed One, when you say that, will the previous and subsequent statements not contradict each other? Why do you say that things are unborn and also like illusions? Blessed One

Chapter on Proclamation. Mahamati, although I say that all things are unborn and like illusions, it does not become a fault of contradicting previous and subsequent words. What is the reason for this? For example, births are unborn, realizing that it is only the manifestation of one's own mind, and seeing that external objects and non-objects are not produced from existence or non-existence. Therefore, Mahamati, my previous and subsequent words will not become a fault of contradiction. However, in order to refute the heretical theory of production from causes, I say that all things are unborn. Mahamati, many foolish heretics believe that things are produced from existence and non-existence, but this is not because they are attached to various kinds of discriminations. Mahamati, even if I exist, I am not born; even if I do not exist, I am not born. Therefore, I speak of the word of non-birth. Mahamati, showing things is for the sake of completely clinging to samsara, and for the sake of dispelling the view of annihilation that there is nothing, and for the sake of showing that my disciples cling to the place of birth in various ways. Therefore, it is said that the name of things is used to completely cling to samsara. Mahamati, showing the nature and characteristics of illusion is for the sake of completely abandoning the nature and characteristics of things. In order to settle those ordinary people who have evil views and fall into the characteristics of evil views, except for the manifestation of their own minds, they are attached to the nature of cause, condition, and action. Therefore, it is shown that all dharmas are the nature and characteristics of illusion and dreams. In any case, in order to prevent those ordinary people who have evil views, are attached to self and others, and all dharmas, and cannot see the truth as it is, from speaking inverted words. Mahamati, seeing the true existence of all dharmas as it is is like this: transcending the manifestation of one's own mind. Then, the Bhagavan spoke this verse to show that meaning: Unborn, unmade, not real objects, Real objects gather all samsara, Illusions and the like are also the same.
