Please explain again the manifest realm of discrimination. World Honored One, from where, for what reason, and by what cause do the words of sentient beings' discrimination arise? The World Honored One said: Great Wisdom, sound arises from the aggregation of the head, chest, neck, nose, lips, tongue, palate, and teeth. Great Wisdom asked the World Honored One: World Honored One, are words and discrimination different, or are they the same? The World Honored One said: Great Wisdom, words and discrimination are neither different nor the same. Why? Because it is the nature that arises from their cause. Great Wisdom, if words and discrimination were different, then discrimination would not be the cause. If they were not the same, then the meaning of words would not be clarified. But in reality, the meaning of words is clarified, therefore, they are neither different nor the same. Great Wisdom again asked the World Honored One: World Honored One, is the word itself the ultimate truth? Or is what the word expresses the ultimate truth? The World Honored One said: Great Wisdom, neither is the word the ultimate truth, nor is what the word expresses the ultimate truth. Why? Because the ultimate truth is the truth of the noble ones. Although words can enter the ultimate truth, the word itself is not the ultimate truth. The ultimate truth is what each noble one can know through the wisdom of their own realization, and it is not the realm that can be reached by the wisdom of the discrimination of words. Therefore, the discrimination of words cannot clarify the ultimate truth. Words are disturbed by arising and ceasing, and arise from mutual causes and conditions. If words arise from mutual causes and conditions, then they cannot clarify the ultimate truth. Great Wisdom, because there is no self and other, and no things of both, the nature of words cannot clarify the ultimate truth. Furthermore, Great Wisdom, because it follows the appearance of one's own mind, there are various characteristics and external objects.

Because there are no things, conceptualizing in the form of words does not clarify the ultimate truth. Therefore, great wisdom should completely abandon the characteristics of conceptualizing in the form of words. Then, the Blessed One, in order to further explain that meaning, spoke these verses: The nature of all things does not exist, and words are not real either. Profound emptiness is the meaning of emptiness, which children cannot understand. All things and their nature, and the nature of words, are like illusions. Self-aware wisdom is the true ultimate, and I have told this to my children. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Mahamati again said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, existence and non-existence, one and different, both and neither, neither existence nor non-existence, abandoning permanence and impermanence, not to be traversed by all heretics, to be traversed by the wisdom of self-awareness of the noble ones, separated from the characteristics of the self and the general of the imagined, entering into the meaning of the ultimate truth itself, connecting the boundaries of the grounds, gradually becoming more and more distinguished from above, the characteristics of complete purity, and the characteristics of following the Tathagata ground, without effort, by the aspiration of the past, like a wish-fulfilling jewel of various forms, the characteristics of the infinite realm of practice, and all the characteristics of the particular way of the appearance of one's own mind, and in any case, I and other Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, like this, abandoning the nature of the universally imagined, and the views of the self and the general characteristics, quickly attain the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment, and after becoming Buddhas, in order to perfect the happiness of all sentient beings, please explain. The Blessed One said: Great wisdom, well done, well done! Your asking me this question is for the happiness of many beings, for the benefit of many beings, and for the sake of compassion for all the worlds of gods and humans. Great wisdom, therefore listen very well and pay attention.

Wait a moment, and I will thoroughly distinguish and explain it to you. Mahamati reported to the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, well said! I will listen to the teachings. The Blessed One then declared: Mahamati, ordinary people do not comprehend that their own minds are merely appearances, and they cling to internal and external objects. Relying on the causes of habitual tendencies towards the nature of one, different, both, neither, existent, nonexistent, both existent and nonexistent, permanent, and impermanent, they give rise to clinging discriminations. For example, deer, extremely tormented by thirst, run after spring mirages, mistaking them for water, completely unaware that it is not water. Similarly, ordinary people, tainted by discriminations arising from beginningless time, their minds scorched by the fire of the three poisons, are extremely attached to the realm of form, viewing it as birth, abiding, and destruction. They completely cling to internal and external objects, and likewise cling to one, different, both, neither, existent, nonexistent, both existent and nonexistent, permanent, and impermanent, and fall into holding discriminatory views. For example, in a Gandharva city, ordinary people lacking wisdom perceive it as a city, and although it appears due to the perception of clinging to habitual tendencies from beginningless time, it is neither a city nor not a city. Similarly, non-Buddhists, clinging to the habitual tendencies of discrimination from beginningless time, abide in the views of one, different, both, neither, existent, nonexistent, both existent and nonexistent, permanent, and impermanent, and therefore fail to comprehend that their own minds are merely appearances. For example, someone in a dream might see men, women, elephants, horses, carriages, pedestrians, villages, cities, gardens, forests, mountains, rivers, and various ponds.
