Transcending the knowledge of the characteristics of the ninth ground, one obtains the cloud of Dharma. There, one enters into that which arises from completely meditating on the realm of illusory nature, arranged with the great king of precious lotuses and the immeasurable precious palace adorned with immeasurable jewels. The retinue is surrounded by those who have the fortune to be sons of the Buddhas, and the Buddhas who come from all the Buddha-fields empower them from the crown of their heads with their hands, manifestly empowering them like the son of a universal monarch. Having transcended the ground of the sons of the Buddhas, in order to comprehend the meaning of the Dharma of self-awareness by each of the noble ones, one will obtain the Dharma-body possessed by the Thus-Gone One, because one sees the selflessness of phenomena. This is called the characteristic of the selflessness of phenomena, and you and the Bodhisattvas should learn this. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Mahamati again requested the Blessed One, saying: Blessed One, please explain the characteristics of superimposition and defamation. May I and the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas completely abandon the evil views of the two extremes of superimposition and defamation, quickly realize the unexcelled, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and even after realizing perfect Buddhahood, may we always abandon the views of superimposition and annihilation, and may we not defame the correct Dharma. Then, the Blessed One, having understood the request of the Bodhisattva Mahamati, spoke these verses: Superimposition and defamation, existence and non-existence, that is only mind. Body and enjoyment, designations and mind, are also extremely difficult to know. Children who lack wisdom, engage in superimposition and defamation. Then, the Blessed One, in order to show the meaning of that verse, spoke thus: Mahamati, there are four types of superimposition on non-existence, what are these four? Namely, superimposing characteristics on non-existence, and on non-existence

To impute on what is seen, to impute on non-existent as cause, and to impute on non-existent as entity; these are called the four types of imputation. To slander is like this: those imputations themselves are not a part of clearly distinguishing what is not an object, thus generating slander. This is the characteristic of imputation and slander. Furthermore, Mahamati, what is the characteristic of imputing characteristics on what is non-existent? It is like this: with regard to the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, the characteristics of self and commonality, it generates manifest attachment to what is non-existent, and says, "This is thus, it is not different from this." This is the characteristic of imputing characteristics on what is non-existent. This conceptualization of imputing characteristics on what is non-existent arises from the manifest attachment to the various habitual tendencies of the place of suffering of elaboration from beginningless time. Mahamati, what is the characteristic of imputing on seeing what is non-existent? It is to view and impute self, person, sentient being, life, nourishment, and purusha on those very aggregates, elements, and sense bases. This is called the characteristic of imputing on seeing what is non-existent. Mahamati, the characteristic of imputing on non-existent as cause is like this: the first consciousness arises from no cause, and later, what is untrue, like an illusion, arises from what was not previously born and does not exist, preceded by the eye, form, appearance, element, and memory, and having arisen, it also perishes. This is the characteristic of imputing on non-existent as cause. Mahamati, the characteristic of imputing on non-existent as entity is like this: to manifestly attach to and impute space, cessation, and nirvana as uncreated entities. These are separated from things and non-things, and all phenomena appear like the horns of rabbits and horses, and like tangled hair. They are separated from existence and non-existence, and beings with childish conceptualizations do not understand that their own mind's appearance is merely mind.

They will fabricate and slander, but not the noble ones, for this is the characteristic of fabricating something that does not exist as existing. Therefore, one should strive to completely abandon the evil views of fabrication and slander. Furthermore, the great wisdom Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas, being skilled in and comprehending the characteristics of mind, intellect, consciousness, the five dharmas, nature, and the two selflessnesses, show various forms in order to benefit sentient beings, just as the nature of complete imputation depends on other circumstances. For example, like a wish-fulfilling jewel that can show various forms, in the Buddha-fields, all the assembled retinues of the Tathagatas go, and in all those places they listen to the teachings. That is to say, all dharmas are like illusions, dreams, light, images, and the moon in water; all dharmas are separate from arising, ceasing, permanence, annihilation, separation, and the Hearers' and Solitary Buddhas' vehicles. From obtaining a hundred samadhis to obtaining hundreds of thousands of kotis of samadhis, having obtained samadhi, they also go to all the Buddha-fields and make offerings to the Buddhas. They are born in all the realms of the gods, reciting praises of the Three Jewels, fully showing the body of the Buddha, surrounded by the retinues of Hearers and Bodhisattvas, and merely by fully manifesting their own minds, they tame sentient beings and liberate them, distinguishing and showing the reality and unreality of external objects, thereby abandoning the views of existence and non-existence. Then, the Blessed One, in order to show that meaning again, spoke these verses: The world is only mind, the sons of the Victorious Ones observe well, various forms are like clouds, free from manifest creation. Powers, superior knowledge, and dominion, all these will be accomplished. Then, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva Great Wisdom again said to the Blessed One
