Some who are attached to the absence of conceptualization, due to the exhaustion of the intellect of conceptualization, conceptualize that rabbits have no horns. Just as rabbits have no horns, so too are all dharmas, they say. Mahamati, others, some non-Buddhists, seeing that arising, qualities, atoms, substances, shapes, and places, the objects of investigation, are each different, are attached to the absence of horns on rabbits, and universally conceptualize, thinking that cows have horns. Mahamati, these fall into two views and, not understanding mind-only, from the sphere of their own minds and the increase of conceptualization, the conceptualization of establishing bodies and enjoyments appears. Mahamati, the nature of all dharmas is also like that, because it is free from existence and non-existence, it should not be conceptualized. Mahamati, If one thinks that because it is free from existence and non-existence, it is like a rabbit's horn and does not exist, that is called wrong conceptualization. Because those are mutually dependent causes, one should not think that rabbits have no horns. Even if one examines down to the finest particles, one cannot see a real object. Mahamati, one should not think that the horns of a cow, which are separate from the realm of the noble ones, exist. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Mahamati said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, does one who has attained non-conceptualization, having seen the nature of non-arising, having deeply contemplated through inference, is it proper to say that the individual thorough conceptualization of the non-arising of conceptualization does not exist? The Blessed One said: Mahamati, it is not the case that the individual thorough conceptualization of the non-arising of conceptualization is said to be non-existent. Why is that? Because conceptualization arises from that cause, and conceptualization arises in dependence on it. Just like that, conceptualization arises in dependence on horns, therefore it is called the dependent cause, and because difference and non-difference have been abandoned, it is not the case that the individual thorough conceptualization of the non-arising of conceptualization is said to be without horns. Mahamati, if conceptualization and difference, then

It will change if it is not produced from the cause of horns. If they are different, then because they are produced from that cause, they are not visible even when examined down to the level of atoms. Since it is not different from the horn, that is also not a real thing. If neither of those two is a real thing, then with what dharma and for what reason do you say there is nothing? Mahamati, if the rabbit's horn does not exist because it is non-existent, then one should not examine the rabbit's horn as non-existent because it depends on existence. Mahamati, since it is not a true cause, neither the assertion of existence nor non-existence will be established. Mahamati, furthermore, those with heretical views who are attached to the object of form and the dharma that is examined in terms of shape and location, and who have not properly understood the divisions of space, say this: "Space is separate from form." In this way, they generate a discriminatory thought that views it in terms of divisions. Mahamati, space is form, and it follows the arising of form. Mahamati, form is an object established by the holding of space and the place to be held, and one should know how to clearly distinguish between the object of form and the object of space. Mahamati, when the great elements arise, their individual characteristics are distinct, and they do not abide in space. And it is not that there is no space in them. Similarly, Mahamati, the rabbit's horn is non-existent because it depends on the existence of the cow's horn. Mahamati, the cow's horn is also broken down into atoms, and if the atoms are completely broken down, they do not remain even for an instant. So, depending on what do you say it is non-existent? If you say it is a substance that depends on something else, then that is also a dharma with such a nature. Then, the Blessed One said this to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Mahamati: Mahamati, having completely abandoned the discriminatory thoughts that view the rabbit's horn, the cow's horn, space, shape, and form as different, you and other Bodhisattva Mahasattvas should keep in mind the discriminatory thoughts that appear in your own minds, enter into all Buddha-fields, and for the sons of the Buddhas, thoroughly discern the appearances of your own minds.
