O son or daughter of a good family, it also causes me to regress from meaning, and also does not comprehend. Those evil logicians who are not proficient in all dharmas and the self-nature of the earth, and do not clearly know the words and definite sounds, proclaim their own sects with a lineage fallen into evil views. If one is proficient in all dharmas and the self-nature of the earth, understands the categories of words and the definite words, and is proficient in the meaning of things and reasoning, then one will be satisfied with the true and signless bliss, and will also be able to truly establish oneself in the Mahayana. O Mahamati, if one truly upholds the Mahayana, one has upheld the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Sravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas. Having upheld the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Sravakas, and Pratyekabuddhas, one has upheld sentient beings. Having upheld all sentient beings, one has upheld the sacred Dharma. O Mahamati, having upheld the sacred Dharma, one has ensured that the Buddha lineage is not cut off. Because the Buddha lineage is not cut off, one should know that one can obtain excellent differences in birth places. Therefore, in those places where excellent birth places can be obtained, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas take birth, and in order to uphold the Mahayana, they hold various forms and appearances with the ten powers, because they understand the appearances of sentient beings and the nature of latent tendencies, therefore they truly proclaim the Dharma as it is. Among them, suchness, non-otherness, reality, non-grasping, the nature of non-abandoning, and the pacification of all elaborations are called Suchness. O Mahamati, because Suchness has no letters, therefore a son or daughter of a good family should not be proficient in clinging to the meaning of the sound as it is, and should not be like looking at a finger. For example, O Mahamati, if someone points to something with the tip of a finger, that person only looks at and follows the tip of the finger. O Mahamati, the childish ordinary people's

These are like children, completely attached and infatuated with the fingertips of literal meaning. They are so attached to the fingertips of literal meaning that they die while still attached. They abandon the meaning of the fingertips of literal meaning and do not strive to understand the ultimate meaning. For example, for those with great wisdom, no one eats food and drink that has not been cooked. Even if someone eats food that has not been cooked, they do not know how to gradually cook food, so they will be considered mad. Similarly, for those with great wisdom, if the unborn and unceasing are not manifested, they will not become beautiful. It must be manifested without hesitation, just as one sees the meaning of the fingertips, and not just the words. Therefore, those with great wisdom should strive for meaning. The meaning sought by those with great wisdom is complete solitude, the cause of transcending suffering. Sound is associated with conceptualization, causing the attainment of samsara. The meaning sought by those with great wisdom can be obtained from those who are widely learned. What is meant by widely learned with great wisdom is being skilled in meaning and not skilled in words. Being skilled in meaning means having a view that is not mixed with all non-Buddhist proponents. When one does not fall oneself and does not cause others to fall, then those with great wisdom who are so widely learned in meaning are endowed with meaning. Therefore, those who desire meaning should rely on them. The opposite of this is attachment to the literal meaning, and those who seek Suchness should abandon it. Furthermore, those with great wisdom, blessed by the blessings of the Buddha, spoke thus: From the view of the unborn and unceasing, the Bhagavan has made no distinction. Why is that? Because, Bhagavan, the causes of all non-Buddhists are also unborn and unceasing. Bhagavan, your cessation, unconsidered like space, and the realms of transcendence of suffering are also unborn and unceasing. Bhagavan, the non-Buddhists also arise from the causes of action and conditions.
