Is ignorance. The Blessed One said: Great Wisdom, in that way, it is not ignorance, but knowledge. Great Wisdom, I considered that, knowing the meaning of when there is no object of focus, that non-object of focus is established as only consciousness. It was not said like that, because one understands that one's own mind is only an appearance, and because outside of existence and non-existence, external objects have no substance, therefore, knowledge does not focus on objects. Because it does not focus on that, knowable and knowledge do not arise. By realizing the three liberations, knowledge also does not focus, those with conceptualization, from beginningless time, are influenced by the habitual tendencies of elaborations on objects and non-objects. Those with wisdom do not know in that way. Those who do not know say that external substances, shapes, and characteristics of objects do not exist, and after saying that, no conceptualization arises, which is shown as only mind. Those who are attached to and cling to the characteristics of self and what belongs to self, because they do not understand that their own mind is only an appearance, therefore, knowledge and knowable are conceptualized separately. Because they conceptualize knowledge and knowable separately, they rely greatly on the view of annihilation because they do not focus on distinguishing external objects and non-objects. To that, it is said like this: If that object of focus exists, but knowledge cannot see it, then that is non-knowledge, it is ignorance, that is the behavior of those with conceptualization. Because it is not other, without characteristics, annihilation, and near and far, if that knowledge cannot see it, then that is called wrong knowledge. Children, old people, the blind, even though that knowable exists, if knowledge does not arise, that is also called wrong knowledge. Furthermore, Great Wisdom, children, individual beings, from beginningless time, dance in the manner of dancing with the elaborations of the body's bad conditions, separately conceptualizing themselves. They are not skilled in showing the principles of their own tenets, because their own mind's appearance is attached to the characteristics of external objects, therefore, they are attached to expressing what is shown as a means. They do not meditate on the pure principles of the four extremes, but on the principles of their own tenets. Great Wisdom asked: Blessed One, it is just like that, as you said.

O Blessed One, in order that I and other Bodhisattvas, great beings, may not be deceived in the future by those who are skilled in exposition and tenets, by those who are heretics, Śrāvakas, and Pratyekabuddhayāna followers who have wrong views, please explain to me the characteristics of exposition and tenets. The Blessed One said: Mahāmati, therefore, listen very well and keep it in mind, and I will tell you. Mahāmati Bodhisattva, the great being Mahāmati, replied: Very well, Blessed One. Then the Blessed One said to him: Mahāmati, the nature of the Dharma of the Tathāgatas, Arhats, Samyaksaṃbuddhas of the past, future, and present is twofold, namely, the nature of the teaching and the nature of the establishment of separate tenets. What is the nature of the teaching, the expression of which is this: Mahāmati, the exposition of various sūtras of the Dharma, which shows beings according to their minds and inclinations. Mahāmati, what is the nature of the tenets in that? It is like this: by which the Yogis transform the appearance of their own minds, that is, transform various discriminations. It is like this: being free from the extremes of one, different, both, and neither, transcending mind, intellect, and consciousness, the realm of the noble ones known by each individual's self-awareness, turning away from the characteristics of cause, view, and reason, that which has not been experienced by heretics, Śrāvakas, and Pratyekabuddhayāna followers who have wrong views, and those who have fallen into the extremes of existence and non-existence, that is what I have explained as the tenets. Mahāmati, therefore, you and other Bodhisattvas, great beings, should strive for the nature of the tenets and the characteristics of the teaching. To that, one should say: My nature is twofold, namely, tenets and teaching. Words are spoken to children, tenets to Yogis. Then again, Mahāmati Bodhisattva, the great being Mahāmati, to the Blessed One
