One should not make a vow based on the nature of things that do not arise from non-existence. Mahamati, those vows are also of the nature of unborn self-nature. Therefore, Mahamati, you should not make a vow because of the defilement of many faults. The limbs are also of different natures, being causes for each other, and because they are made, one should not make a vow with the limbs. Mahamati, for example, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should not vow that all dharmas are unborn, and likewise, that all dharmas are empty and without self-nature. Mahamati, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva should show all things as like illusions and dreams. Otherwise, Mahamati, those children who fall into being and non-being will not be afraid, and will not be far from the Mahayana, and in order to abandon the place of fear for the children, the nature of appearance and non-appearance, views, and things that delude the mind, should be shown as all dharmas like illusions and dreams. To this it should be said: There is no self-nature and no consciousness, there is no thing and no basis. These are like corpses, discriminated by those with wrong thoughts, the children. All dharmas are unborn, because it is proclaimed from all heretics. Those who have things and are endowed with causes, for whom there is no birth or non-birth. All things are unborn, vowing is impermanent, because it is accomplished and has causes, their minds will also degenerate. Just as a blind person combs tangled hair, seen by those with cataracts. Likewise, this discrimination on things, children discriminate wrongly. The three realms are only discriminations, the nature of things is neither existent nor non-existent, in the nature of discriminating things, those who discriminate will discriminate. From the consciousness of names and things, and from the movement of the mind, my sons have transcended, they do not discriminate and act. Just as in a mirage, water is perceived where there is no water, children are like that in appearance, but the noble ones have differences. The vision of the noble ones is pure, born in the three doors of liberation, from birth and destruction

It is liberation, practicing well in non-existence. Although things do not appear, they are not non-existent to the yogi. Because of the equality of existence and non-existence, the fruit of the noble ones is born. How do things and non-things become equal in nature? When will the mind not know the outer and inner movements? At that time, it is the time of destruction, and the equality of the mind is also seen. Mahamati asked, the Blessed One said, when one does not perceive by knowing the meaning of what is to be perceived, then it is established as mere consciousness. Because consciousness has no object to be grasped, the grasper also becomes without grasping. Because it is without grasping, the consciousness called discrimination does not arise. Having said this, Blessed One, is it because one cannot comprehend the various differences of the self-characteristics and general characteristics of things, that consciousness cannot perceive? Or is it because the self-nature of the various things of self-characteristics and general characteristics is suppressed, that consciousness cannot perceive? For example, walls, fences, ponds, enclosures, land, water, wind, and fire are separated, and because of distance and proximity, consciousness cannot perceive the meaning of what is to be known? For example, blind people, children, and old people, with their senses complete, cannot perceive the meaning of what is to be known. Blessed One, if consciousness cannot perceive because one cannot comprehend the various differences of self-characteristics and general characteristics, then Blessed One should not be called consciousness, why? Because one who cannot perceive what has meaning is ignorant. If consciousness cannot perceive because the various self-natures of self-characteristics and general characteristics suppress the self-nature of things, then Blessed One, this is also not consciousness, it is non-consciousness. Blessed One, if there is something to be known, then consciousness arises, not from nothing, because it is in accordance with it, what is to be known is called consciousness. For example, walls, fences, ponds, enclosures, land, water, wind, and fire are separated, and because of distance and proximity, one cannot perceive, and children, old people, and blind people, because their senses are incomplete, consciousness cannot perceive, then Blessed One, because wisdom is incomplete, one cannot perceive the existing meaning, therefore this is not consciousness.
