Because they have not understood the views of discrimination in the realm of the self of the heretics, and because they do not accept that the self is merely a manifestation of the mind, therefore, each ignorant being asserts that the nature of things and non-things are two ultimate views. Mahamati, furthermore, due to ignorance, craving, the inverted conditions of karma, discrimination, the inversion of the suffering of the three existences, and the subsequent view of the illusory realm of one's own mind manifestation, it should be explained. Mahamati, whether a Shramana or a Brahmin, if they believe that the unborn or the born arise from causes producing effects, that things are eternally existent, and that from various conditions arise the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas, and that there is birth, abiding, and destruction, then, Mahamati, these people will be attached to permanence, action, birth, existence, nirvana, path, karma and fruit, truth, destruction, and annihilation. Why is this? Because through direct perception and non-apprehension, the beginning cannot be seen. Mahamati, for example, a potter cannot make pottery without clay. A burnt seed cannot produce a sprout. Mahamati, similarly, those things of the skandhas, dhatus, and ayatanas that have ceased, are ceasing, and will cease, are because I (i.e., the mind's manifestation) arise from the cause of discriminatory views, so they do not arise continuously. Mahamati, if the unborn or the born arise from the complete action of the conditions of the union of the three, then, Mahamati, like the hair of a rabbit, things that originally do not exist, even oil can be extracted from sand. Mahamati, if it is said that things arise from existence and non-existence, it will lead to the breaking of vows, contradiction with certainty, and actions, deeds, and functions will also become meaningless. Mahamati, for those people, because they possess the action of the conditions of the union of the three, therefore there are causes and effects, and they can show their own nature. Know that the nature of existence and non-existence that arises in the past, future, and present exists, and abide on the ground examined by the scriptures, and the habitual tendencies of the faults of one's own views.

The Bodhisattva said: "Mahamati, those childish beings who are caught in wrong views, who have unequal minds, do not understand this, and therefore say that the Dharma was taught by the All-knowing One. Mahamati, any Shramana or Brahmana who sees no self-nature, like clouds, whirling firebrands, Gandharva cities, the unborn, illusions, mirages, the moon in water, dreams, the manifestations of the mind in external objects, discriminations, and sees the play of beginningless time, their own mind-appearances, which do not cease because of discrimination, are devoid of the expressions of complete imagination, characteristics, the basis of characteristics, and what is to be expressed, are devoid of the Alaya-consciousness that appears as body, enjoyment, and place, are devoid of objects, the grasped, and the grasper, are the realm of activity without appearance, have abandoned birth, abiding, and destruction, will meditate on their own mind as having birth. Mahamati, those Bodhisattvas-Mahasattvas will soon attain the equality of Samsara and Nirvana. Mahamati, those who have great compassion and skillful means, whose Yoga is spontaneously accomplished, who see all realms of sentient beings as equal to illusions and images, not made by causes and conditions, whose inner and outer realms are all tranquil, who have the blessing of being without characteristics by looking outside the mind, will gradually enter the stages of the earth, the realm of Samadhi, and by greatly delighting in the three realms as their own mind as an illusion, will thoroughly attain the Samadhi of illusion. By entering into the mere absence of appearance of one's own mind, those Bodhisattvas who abide in the Perfection of Wisdom, who have attained birth and activity, the Samadhi like the Vajra body, who follow the body of the Tathagata, who possess the emanation of Suchness, adorned with power, super-knowledge, mastery, love, compassion, and skillful means, will approach the places of the heretics in all Buddha-fields, and will be separated from mind, thought, and consciousness."
