If a yogi meditates on that, he will not go beyond suchness. Characteristics are the power of others, whatever is named is discrimination. Thoroughly conceptualized and characteristics arise from the power of others. If one examines with wisdom, there is no other power and no discrimination. If there are real things, whether existent or nonexistent, what should one discriminate with wisdom? If one has completely abandoned existence and nonexistence, if there is a real thing, how can a thing that is liberated from existence and nonexistence become two? On the nature of thorough conceptualization, two natures are well established, discriminations appear in various ways, it is the realm of pure noble ones. The appearance of various discriminations is said to be the power of others. If one discriminates in another way, one will abide in the heretical speakers. Discrimination is called discrimination, because it arises from causes for the sake of seeing. Liberation from the two discriminations is the complete accomplishment of that very thing. Again, Great Wisdom asked: "Bhagavan, by what characteristics can I and other Bodhisattva Mahasattvas realize the wisdom of individual self-realization of the noble ones and the one vehicle? And how can we become skilled in the wisdom of individual self-realization of the noble ones and the one vehicle, and not rely on others for all the Buddha's teachings? Please explain the characteristics of realizing the wisdom of individual self-realization of the noble ones and the one vehicle." The Bhagavan said: "Great Wisdom, therefore, listen very well and keep it in mind, and I will tell you." Great Wisdom said: "Very well, Bhagavan." The Bodhisattva Mahasattva Great Wisdom listened again to the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan spoke as follows: Great Wisdom, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Alone goes to a solitary place, without discrimination in valid measure and reliable scriptures, examines well with his own wisdom, does not rely on others, abandons views and discriminations, and strives to enter the Tathagata's ground from above. Great Wisdom, this is the characteristic of realizing the wisdom of individual self-realization of the noble ones. What is the characteristic of realizing the Great Vehicle? It is like this: knowing the path of the one vehicle.

Therefore, because of understanding this, it is called the One Vehicle. So, what is the path of the One Vehicle, and what does it mean to understand it? It is like this: because the conceptualizations of the grasped and the grasper abide as they truly are, conceptualizations do not arise. Therefore, one has understood the One Vehicle. Mahamati, other than me, other non-Buddhists, Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Brahma, etc., have not obtained, nor will they obtain, the previously taught One Vehicle. Therefore, Mahamati, that is why it is called the One Vehicle. Mahamati asked: Bhagavan, why did you teach the Three Vehicles, and not the One Vehicle? The Bhagavan replied: Mahamati, like this, all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are liberated by the teachings of the Tathagata's discipline and the yoga of profound solitude, and not by themselves. Mahamati, because their nature is of a dharma that does not completely pass beyond suffering, the One Vehicle was not taught to all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Furthermore, Mahamati, all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, because they have not abandoned the obscurations of knowledge and the habitual tendencies of karma, have not realized the selflessness of phenomena, and have not obtained the inconceivable death (cyuti), therefore the Three Vehicles were taught to the Shravakas, and not the One Vehicle. Mahamati, when they have abandoned all the evil habitual tendencies and realized the selflessness of phenomena, they are liberated from the faults of habitual tendencies and the intoxication of samadhi, and awaken again from the uncontaminated realm of reality. Then, they completely fulfill the assemblies belonging to the uncontaminated realm of reality, both mundane and supramundane, and thus will fully obtain the power over the inconceivable Dharmakaya. Regarding this, it is said: The vehicle of the gods and the vehicle of Brahma, and also the vehicle of the Shravakas. The vehicle of the Tathagatas and the Pratyekabuddhas, these vehicles I have taught. As long as sentient beings are in samsara, these vehicles will not be exhausted. When the mind becomes extremely pure, there is no vehicle and no place to go. Although there is no separate establishment of vehicles, in order to guide sentient beings, I have taught different vehicles, which converge into the One Vehicle.

I have declared it. Likewise, the three liberations, the selflessness of the Dharma itself, the equality wisdom, and the afflictions, are abandoned by liberation. Just as trees in the ocean are scattered by the waves, so too are the ignorant Shravakas greatly agitated by characteristics. Although they are free from all arising, they are still connected with the habits of afflictions. Intoxicated by samadhi, they dwell in the realm of non-outflow. There is no final limit for them, nor do they return from it. Having obtained the body of samadhi, they do not awaken for kalpas. Just as a man is drunk with alcohol, and awakens after being separated from alcohol, so too will they also obtain my Dharmakaya. This completes the second chapter, called "The Chapter on the Collection of All Dharmas," from the Lankavatara Sutra of 36,000 verses. Second Chapter: The Chapter on the Collection of All Dharmas.
