Second, the chapter called "Compendium of All Dharmas." Second, the chapter called "Compendium of All Dharmas." Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Great Wisdom, who travels through all Buddha-fields, together with the Bodhisattva Wisdom, by the power of the Buddha, rose from his seat, draped his upper garment over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, and, with palms joined, paid homage to the Blessed One. He praised the Blessed One with these verses: The world has no birth or death, like a flower in the sky. With your wisdom and great compassion, you do not fixate on existence or non-existence. All dharmas are like illusions, abandoning mind and consciousness. With your wisdom and great compassion, you do not fixate on existence or non-existence. The world has abandoned permanence and annihilation, like dizziness, like a dream. With your wisdom and great compassion, you do not fixate on existence or non-existence. Dharmas and persons are without self, and your afflictions and knowable objects. With your wisdom and great compassion, they are always pure because of the absence of characteristics. How can the Dharmakaya, which is of the nature of illusion and dream, be praised? Praising the unborn is praising that which has no inherent nature. Faculties, objects, and consciousness are separate, and seeing that which is non-manifest is best. Whether praising or criticizing, how can one speak of the Sage? He does not pass into nirvana, nor does he not pass; you do not abide in nirvana. He is free from intellect and knowledge, and has abandoned the extremes of existence and non-existence. Who can see the peaceful Sage who has thus abandoned birth and death? In that, in this, and in the future, there will be no attachment or clinging. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Great Wisdom praised the Blessed One with similar verses: I beseech the Blessed One for my name and lineage. Blessed One, I am Great Wisdom, understanding the meaning of the Great Vehicle. I will ask the best of speakers one hundred and eight questions. Having heard these words, the Buddha, the best of those who know the world, looked upon all the retinue and said to the sons of the Sugata: Ask me, princes, you, Great Wisdom.

Now I ask again. The realm of individual self-awareness is, I will explain to you. Then, as the Blessed One opened the occasion, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Great Wisdom bowed his head to the Blessed One's feet and asked the Blessed One: How does pure discrimination transform? Why does discrimination arise? How does error exist? Why does error arise? Why the emanations and fields, your names and the heretics as well? Why the order of non-appearance? From where do your sons of the Buddha come? Where will liberation go? Who is bound, and by whom is he liberated? What is the realm of the meditator? How are the three vehicles? What are those born of conditions? What is the fruit, and what is the cause? Why speak of the extremes in duality? How do the aggregates arise? How are the formless attainments and cessation? How is the cessation of perception? Why and how does one awaken? Action and the taking of a body, why do they occur? How does one meditate on appearances? How does one enter the stages? Where does the triple world abide? What is the place, and what is the body? Where does one abide and go? How does one become a son of the Victorious One? How does one obtain powers and samadhis? How does one place the mind in equanimity? O Supreme Victor, please tell me. How are the mind, the consciousness, and the storehouse consciousness? How does one enter into appearances? How does one return from appearances? How are the lineages and the absence of lineages, and by what are they distinguished? How does one become mind-only? How does one establish names, and how is selflessness? How is it that there are no sentient beings? How is the conventional truth explained? How is it that views do not increase through permanence and annihilation? How is it that you and the heretics are not contradicted by the characteristics? How are the schools? Please explain what will happen in the future. Why and how is emptiness? How do you destroy in an instant? How does the essence arise? How is it that there is no creator? Why is the world like an illusion? Like a city of gandharvas, like a mirage, and like the moon in water, why do you tell me this? Bodhi
