Venerable One, if all things are like illusions due to the characteristic of being manifestly attached to various kinds of illusion, then, Venerable One, in that case, things are not like illusions. What is the reason for that? For example, it is for the sake of seeing the characteristics of various forms without cause. Venerable One, there is no cause whatsoever that makes the characteristics of various forms appear like illusions. Therefore, Venerable One, due to manifest attachment to the characteristics of various illusions, and being in accordance with the Dharma, things are not like illusions. The Venerable One said: Great Wisdom, although all dharmas are not like illusions due to manifest attachment to the characteristics of various illusions and being in accordance with the Dharma. Great Wisdom, all dharmas are like illusions because they are in accordance with the Dharma, like lightning that flashes quickly. Great Wisdom, for example, the appearance of lightning flashing and disappearing in an instant is not obvious to children. Similarly, Great Wisdom, all things also appear because they are not good at distinguishing the general characteristics of their own perceptions, and because of manifest attachment to the characteristics of form. To this, it should be said: Illusions are not non-existent, because they are in accordance with the Dharma, Things are said to exist. Like fast lightning, Therefore, know them to be like illusions. Again, Great Wisdom reported: Venerable One, you have said that all things are unborn and like illusions. Venerable One, if you teach in this way, saying that things are unborn and also saying that they are like illusions, then your previous and subsequent words will inevitably have the fault of contradiction. The Venerable One said: Great Wisdom, my saying that things are unborn and also saying that they are like illusions does not constitute the fault of contradiction. What is the reason for that? For example, because of seeing birth and non-birth, and only realizing the appearance of one's own mind, and external things, and things not arising from existence and non-existence, therefore, Great Wisdom, my words do not constitute the fault of contradiction. Great Wisdom, that is the cause of the heretics.

In order to destroy arising from other directions, all things are called unarisen like illusions. Mahamati, those foolish heretic groups think that things arise from existence and non-existence, not from the causes and conditions of clinging to various discriminations. Mahamati, my existence also does not arise, and non-existence also does not arise. Therefore, Mahamati, I speak of the word of non-arising. Furthermore, Mahamati, showing things is to completely grasp samsara, to prevent annihilation, and to completely grasp the places of birth from which my disciples arise in various ways. Because grasping the sound of things, one should completely grasp samsara. Mahamati, these ordinary people are attached to the characteristics of evil views, and do not see the true way of existence of all dharmas as it is, therefore they deceive themselves and others, so the nature of things like illusions and characteristics, by showing the nature and characteristics of things, are completely prevented. Ordinary people have the idea of falling into the characteristics of evil views, do not understand that their own mind is only a manifestation, and for those who are attached to the characteristics of arising from cause, condition, and action, because of foolishness, all dharmas are shown to be the nature and characteristics of illusion and dream. Among them, Mahamati, seeing the true way of existence of all dharmas as it is is like this: entering one's own mind is only a manifestation. To this, it should be said: There is no birth and no cause. Things completely grasp samsara. If seen as the same as cause, etc., then for characteristics, it is not real. Furthermore, Mahamati, by thoroughly understanding the collection of names, words, and letters, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas do not follow the meaning, words, and letters, quickly realize Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi, and also make all sentient beings understand in the same way, thereby thoroughly showing the characteristics of the collection of names, words, and letters. Among them, Mahamati, the so-called collection of names is like this:
