Mahamati, again, by discriminating and observing Norpa as inverted and not inverted, it is like this: one can obtain the lineage of the noble ones or the lineage of individual ordinary people, these two lineages. Mahamati, the lineage of the noble ones is also like this: it is divided into Sravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Buddhas, and thus it is divided into three types. Mahamati, how do ordinary people generate the lineage of the Sravaka vehicle by discriminating and observing Norpa? It is like this: Mahamati, by being attached to the self-characteristics and general characteristics, if one is attached, it becomes the lineage of the Sravaka vehicle. In this way, Mahamati, Norpa can obtain the lineage of the Sravaka vehicle. Mahamati, if one discriminates and observes Norpa itself, how can one obtain the lineage of the Pratyekabuddha vehicle? Mahamati, it is like this: by being attached to the self-characteristics and general characteristics of Norpa itself, and by being free from bustle, one can obtain the lineage of the Pratyekabuddha vehicle. Mahamati, how do the wise ones obtain the lineage of the Buddha vehicle by discriminating and observing Norpa itself? It is like this: Mahamati, because one understands that one's own mind is only an appearance, one does not discriminate external objects as having substance or not having substance. If one discriminates, one can obtain the lineage of the Buddha vehicle. Therefore, Mahamati, this is the lineage, it is the meaning of lineage. Mahamati, ordinary people regard Norpa as the nature of various things, thinking, "This is just so, it is not otherwise." By discriminating in this way, one can obtain the lineage of the cycle of existence. Therefore, Mahamati, ordinary people regard Norpa as various things, but it is neither a thing nor a non-thing. Mahamati, by discriminating and observing Norpa itself, because it has been transformed into something other than the nature of the defiled habitual tendencies of the minds, intentions, and consciousnesses of the noble ones, Norpa is called Suchness for the noble ones. Mahamati,

Therefore, Mahamati, suchness is liberated from the mind. I said this, Mahamati, to show this very word, I said: Also completely abandoning discriminations, being free from all discriminations. I have said all these. Mahamati asked: Blessed One, is there error or is there no error? The Blessed One replied: Mahamati, error exists like an illusion, but attachment to characteristics is not existence. Mahamati, if error exists due to attachment to characteristics, Mahamati, then attachment to things will be unstoppable. Mahamati, this will also become like the arising of dependent origination and the arising from causes as taught by the heretics. Mahamati asked: Blessed One, if error is like an illusion, then error will become the cause of other things. The Blessed One replied: Mahamati, illusion does not lead to the fault of bad rebirths, therefore it is not the cause of error. Mahamati, if not discriminated, illusion does not lead to the fault of bad rebirths. Mahamati, arises from the power of the mantras of other beings, but not from the power of the habitual tendencies of one's own discriminating bad rebirths. Therefore, it does not lead to faults, because Mahamati, in any case, due to attachment, fools are only deceived by seeing characteristics, but not for the noble ones. To this it can be said: The noble ones do not see error, and truth is not at that time either. Because at that time it is true, error will also become true. Even after abandoning all errors, if one clings to characteristics, that itself is error, just like when eye disease is not completely cleared. Furthermore, Mahamati, seeing that illusion is in accordance with non-non-existence, not all dharmas are like illusion. Mahamati asked: Blessed One, are all dharmas like illusion because of attachment to the characteristics of various illusions? Or is it because of attachment to the characteristics of perversion?
