In short, there are seven types of emptiness. These are: emptiness of characteristic, emptiness of the nature of things, emptiness of existence, emptiness of non-existence, emptiness of all things being inexpressible, emptiness of the great emptiness of the ultimate noble wisdom, and emptiness of one by one. Great wisdom, what is the emptiness of characteristic? It is like this: all things are empty of their own and common characteristics. Great wisdom, because the assembled things are mutually dependent and there is no difference to be distinguished, there is no entry into their own and common characteristics. Great wisdom, because there is no self, other, or both, there is no place for characteristics to exist, therefore all things are called emptiness of characteristic. Great wisdom, what is the emptiness of the nature of things? It is like this: Great wisdom, because things do not arise from their own nature, all things are empty of the nature of things, therefore it is called emptiness of the nature of things. Great wisdom, what is the emptiness of existence? It is like this: the aggregates that are separate from self and what belongs to self arise from cause, reason, action, karma, and conditions, therefore it is called emptiness of existence. Great wisdom, what is the emptiness of non-existence? It is like this: for the aggregates, nirvana did not exist before, therefore it is called emptiness of non-existence. Great wisdom, what is the emptiness of inexpressibility? It is like this: because the nature of what is completely imputed is inexpressible, all things are the emptiness of inexpressibility, therefore it is called emptiness of inexpressibility. Great wisdom, what is the great emptiness of the ultimate noble wisdom? It is like this: understanding the noble wisdom of each individual is empty of all views and habitual tendencies of faults, therefore it is called the great emptiness of the ultimate noble wisdom. Great wisdom, what is the emptiness of one by one? It is like this: where there is nothing, that is empty of that. For example: Great wisdom

Great Wisdom, in the house of the Earth-Holder Mother, there are no elephants, cows, sheep, etc., but I say that monks and nuns, etc., are not emptiness. Although it is said that it is empty of them, Great Wisdom, the house is not without the substance of the house. The monks are also not without the nature of monks. The substances of elephants, cows, sheep, etc., are also not existing separately. Great Wisdom, similarly, the self-characteristics and common characteristics of all dharmas are incompatible with each other, therefore it is said that one is emptiness. Great Wisdom, these are the seven types of emptiness. Great Wisdom, one emptiness is the worst of all emptinesses, and you should completely abandon it. Great Wisdom, self-nature is also not born, nor is it born except in the state of meditative absorption, nor is it unborn, therefore understand unbornness, selflessness, and irrationality, all things are selfless. Great Wisdom, because the momentary continuum has no continuity and appears to change, all dharmas are selfless, therefore all things are said to be selfless. Great Wisdom, what is the characteristic of non-duality? For example, shadows and the sun, long and short, black and white, etc., these things that are divided into two are not independent of each other. Great Wisdom, similarly, all dharmas such as samsara and nirvana are non-dual, Great Wisdom, that is because there are causes of different characteristics. Where there is nirvana, there is no samsara. Where there is samsara, there is no nirvana. Therefore, all dharmas are non-dual like samsara and nirvana. Therefore, Great Wisdom, strive for the characteristics of emptiness, unbornness, non-duality, and selflessness. Then, at that time, the Blessed One spoke these verses: Samsara is like a dream and illusion, abandoning permanence and annihilation, although emptiness is often spoken, karma will not
