Skillful Means Paramita is fully explained as being the companion of those three. Avalokiteshvara, if a Bodhisattva in this life cannot constantly practice meditation due to many afflictions, and because of low faculties and inclinations, the higher intention is weak and cannot keep the mind within, and the Bodhisattva's treasury of teachings, because he has not fully meditated on the object of hearing, he cannot realize the wisdom that transcends the world, then, if he properly takes and abides in a small collection of merit, and wishes in his mind that in the future he will have few afflictions, that is his aspiration paramita. Because he will become less afflicted and will be able to exert effort. Therefore, the aspiration paramita is the companion of the effort paramita. By relying on properly relying on a noble person and listening to the Dharma, he obtains proper attention and reverses the state of weak higher intention, and from the rich faculties he obtains the power of intention, that is his power paramita. Because he can keep the mind within, therefore, the power paramita is the companion of the meditation paramita. For him, the Bodhisattva's treasury of teachings, after fully meditating on the object of hearing, he meditates, that is his wisdom paramita. Because he can realize the wisdom that transcends the world, therefore, I fully explain that the wisdom paramita is the companion of the wisdom paramita. World Honored One, why should we understand that the order of these six paramitas is explained in this way? Avalokiteshvara, because they are the basis for the attainment of higher and higher states. If a Bodhisattva does not care about body and possessions, he will properly take the precepts. If he keeps the precepts, he will become patient. If he is patient, he will exert effort. If he exerts effort, he will accomplish meditation. If meditation is accomplished

Then, one obtains wisdom that transcends the world. O Blessed One, how are those perfections (pāramitā) classified? Avalokiteśvara, the powerful one, there are three types: Giving has three aspects: the giving of Dharma, the giving of material things, and the giving of fearlessness. Morality has three aspects: morality that turns away from non-virtue, morality that engages in virtue, and morality that engages in the benefit of sentient beings. Patience has three aspects: patience that does not resent those who cause harm, patience that does not mind suffering, and patience that definitely contemplates the Dharma. Diligence has three aspects: armor-like diligence, diligence that applies to virtue, and diligence that applies to the benefit of sentient beings. Meditation has three aspects: meditation that does not discriminate and is peaceful, utterly peaceful, as an antidote to afflictions and suffering, meditation that abides in bliss, meditation that manifests qualities, and meditation that manifests the benefit of sentient beings. Wisdom has three aspects: wisdom that focuses on conventional truth, wisdom that focuses on ultimate truth, and wisdom that focuses on the benefit of sentient beings. O Blessed One, why are those perfections called perfections? Avalokiteśvara, the powerful one, it is because of five reasons: the nature of non-attachment, the nature of non-expectation, the nature of faultlessness, the nature of non-discrimination, and the nature of complete dedication. Among these, the nature of non-attachment refers to the absence of excessive attachment to objects that are not in harmony with the perfections. Among these, the nature of non-expectation refers to the absence of a mind that expects the ripening of the fruits of the perfections and the return of benefits. Among these, the nature of faultlessness refers to the fact that those perfections are not mixed with all afflicted dharmas and have completely abandoned non-skillful means. Among these, the nature of non-discrimination refers to the absence of literal adherence to the self-nature of those perfections. Among these, the nature of complete dedication refers to the aspiration that those perfections themselves, which have been done and accumulated, become the fruit of the Bodhi mind. O Blessed One, the perfections

What are the inconsistent things? Avalokiteśvara, those should be understood as six things: regarding the pleasure of desire, enjoyment, power, and the merit of self as the benefit of virtue; acting according to one's wishes with body, speech, and mind; merit and clamor due to intolerance of contempt and lack of diligence; indulging in various worldly affairs and distractions; regarding the elaboration of terms of seeing, hearing, distinguishing, and consciousness as the benefit of virtue. World-Honored One, what are the ripening fruits of those perfections? Avalokiteśvara is also to be understood as six forms: namely, great wealth; going to happy realms; being without enmity and discord, having much happiness and contentment; being the lord of sentient beings; having no harm to the body; and being known as great power. World-Honored One, what mixes with the all-pervading defiled dharmas in those perfections? Avalokiteśvara should be understood by four combinations: namely, the combination of no compassion; the combination of non-reason; the combination of not doing constantly; and the combination of not doing respectfully. Among them, the combination of non-reason is: for other perfections, the decline of meditation on those other perfections. World-Honored One, what is not skillful means? Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, when those perfections benefit sentient beings, if they are only satisfied with helping with material things, and do not save them from the state of non-virtue, nor place them in the state of virtue, that is not skillful means. Why is that? Avalokiteśvara, just doing that does not benefit sentient beings. For example, an impure thing, whether large or small, cannot be made fragrant by any means. Similarly, those sentient beings who suffer due to the nature of suffering of formation, merely helping with material things
