Numbers cannot bring happiness either; whatever rests in virtue, that alone is the supreme benefit to them. Blessed One, how many purities are there of those perfections? Avalokiteśvara, the powerful one, I do not say that there are other purities of the perfections apart from those five, but relying on those themselves, I will summarize the purities of the perfections and explain them to you individually. Among these, the summarized purity of all the perfections should be understood in seven ways. What are the seven? They are: a bodhisattva's dharmas do not seek the benefit of knowledge entirely from others; they do not become attached by viewing those dharmas; they do not generate doubt and hesitation about whether these dharmas will definitely lead to enlightenment; they do not praise themselves, nor disparage or despise others; they are not arrogant or heedless; they are not content with a little or a meager amount; they are not miserly with those dharmas, nor are they jealous of others. The individual purities of the perfections should also be understood in only seven ways. What are the seven individual ways? They are: the seven purities of giving, giving with the purity of the object to be given, and giving with the purity of discipline, the purity of view, the purity of mind, the purity of speech, the purity of knowledge, and the purity of defilement. Whatever I have taught, those who are bodhisattvas, having taken them up correctly and abiding in them, are the seven purities of giving. For example, a bodhisattva is skilled in all aspects of the training of the vows, skilled in recovering from downfalls, and is one who has definite discipline, one who has stable discipline, one who always acts, one who always engages, and one who correctly takes up the trainings and practices them; these are the seven purities of discipline. For example, from all harm

When everything is near at hand, not being disturbed by relying on the ripening of one's own actions, and not engaging in harming by retaliating with scolding, rebuking, beating, threatening, and exposing faults in order to answer, not holding thoughts of resentment, not being completely afflicted when bound by blame, not dwelling on blame, not enduring with a mind of fear and confusion, and not abandoning what should be benefited, these are the seven aspects of pure patience. For example: fully understanding the equality of diligence, and initiating diligence, thereby not praising oneself and not disparaging others, possessing power, possessing diligence, possessing joy, being steadfast and firm, and not abandoning diligence in virtuous dharmas, these are the seven aspects of pure diligence. For example: meditating on the samadhi that well understands the characteristics, meditating on the samadhi that is completely perfect, meditating on the samadhi of both parts, meditating on the samadhi that arises by force, meditating on the non-abiding samadhi, meditating on the samadhi that is extremely purified, and meditating on the immeasurable samadhi that completely cultivates the object of the Bodhisattva's treasury, these are the seven aspects of pure contemplation. For example: that wisdom completely abandoning the extremes of superimposition and the extremes of denigration, and definitely arising through the Middle Way, and with that wisdom, fully understanding the meaning of the three doors of liberation, namely emptiness, wishlessness, and signlessness, as they truly are, and fully understanding the meaning of the three natures, namely the completely imputed nature, the other-dependent nature, and the thoroughly established nature, as they truly are, and fully understanding the meaning of the three non-natures, namely the characteristic, the arising, and the ultimate non-nature, as they truly are, and fully understanding the meaning of the conventional truth in the five sciences, as they truly are,

Thus, with regard to the seven suchnesses, one fully understands the meaning of the ultimate truth as it is, and without conceptualization or elaboration, one dwells extensively in that single state. With the superior insight that focuses on the immeasurable mixed and defiled dharmas, one correctly practices the practice of dharma that accords with the dharma. One should know that these are the seven kinds of pure wisdom. World Honored One, what are the respective actions of those five? Avalokiteshvara, the actions of those should also be known as fivefold: namely, by the nature of non-attachment, the Bodhisattva constantly engages in the perfections in this life, and diligently practices with respectful application. By the nature of non-observation, in the future, one fully grasps the cause of diligence in those. By the nature of faultlessness, one cultivates the perfections that are extremely complete, extremely pure, and extremely purified. By the nature of non-conceptualization, the one skilled in means quickly perfects the perfections. By the nature of dedication, until the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, in all lifetimes, one obtains the inexhaustible perfections with the desired and complete ripening fruits. World Honored One, what is the vastness of those perfections? Avalokiteshvara, it is the nature of non-attachment, the nature of non-observation, and the nature of dedication. What is the absence of all defilements? It is the nature of faultlessness and the nature of non-conceptualization. What is the nature of purification? It is the nature of individual examination and action. What is the nature of immovability? It is the nature of the irreversible dharma of those who have entered the grounds. What is the nature of extreme purity? Avalokiteshvara, it is belonging to the tenth ground and belonging to the Buddha ground. World Honored One, why do Bodhisattvas always possess the ripening fruits of the perfections without being satisfied with desire, and without being satisfied with the perfections? Avalokiteshvara, it is because one relies on the other, for the sake of cultivating the accomplishment of the ground.
