Being constantly ignorant of all dharmas, constantly ignorant of the power of pride, and those are the incompatible aspects of its faults. Tenth, being constantly ignorant of great superknowledge, constantly ignorant of entering into the secret and subtle, and those are the incompatible aspects of its faults. In the Buddha-ground, being constantly ignorant of the extremely subtle attachment to all knowable things, constantly ignorant of obstacles, and those are the incompatible aspects of its faults. Those Avalokiteśvara lords are distinguished by these twenty-two kinds of constant ignorance and eleven kinds of faults, and they do not possess the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. O Blessed One, in whom is it so? Bodhisattvas thus completely sever the great net of constant ignorance and truly transcend its great mass of faults, manifesting the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. How wonderful it is that the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment is so beneficial and fruitful! O Blessed One, by how many purities are those distinguished? By eight purities of Avalokiteśvara, namely, the purity of higher intention, the purity of mind, the purity of great compassion, the purity of pāramitās, the purity of seeing and serving the Buddhas, the purity of completely ripening sentient beings, the purity of birth, and the purity of power. O Avalokiteśvara, whatever is the purity of higher intention to the purity of power on the first ground, and whatever is the purity of higher intention to the purity of power between the higher and higher grounds and the Buddha-ground, that should be known as the most pure and the most exceedingly pure. Among them, in the Buddha-ground, except for the purity of birth, whatever are the qualities of the first ground, those higher grounds are equal to those qualities, and it should also be known that they are distinguished by the qualities of their own ground. All ten Bodhisattva grounds are those with unsurpassed qualities, and the Buddha-ground is truly understood as having unsurpassed qualities.

What should be done? Oh Blessed One, for what reason is the birth of a Bodhisattva considered the most excellent among all births in existence? Avalokiteśvara, it is for four reasons: for the sake of accomplishing a very pure root of virtue; for the sake of individually examining and taking; for the sake of possessing compassion that completely protects all beings; for the sake of oneself not being completely afflicted; and for the sake of reversing the afflictions of others. Oh Blessed One, for what reason do Bodhisattvas have great aspirations, possess abundant aspirations, and have the power of aspiration? Avalokiteśvara, it is for four reasons: for example, Bodhisattvas are skilled at abiding in the bliss of Nirvana, and are able to quickly attain it, and having quickly attained that and the place of abiding in bliss, they also abandon it, wishing in their minds for the benefit of sentient beings, without wandering, without need, many sufferings, various kinds, appearing for a long time. Therefore, they are called those who have great aspirations, possess abundant aspirations, and have the power of aspiration. Oh Blessed One, how many trainings do Bodhisattvas have? Avalokiteśvara, there are six: generosity, ethics, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom. Oh Blessed One, among these six trainings, which are the trainings of higher ethics? Which are the trainings of higher mind? Which are the trainings of higher wisdom? Avalokiteśvara, it should be known that the first three are the trainings of higher ethics. Meditation is the training of higher mind, [Lithang Kanjur Volume No. CA] Wisdom is the training of higher wisdom. I say that diligence is all-pervasive. Oh Blessed One, among these six trainings, which are the accumulations of merit? Which are the accumulations of wisdom? Avalokiteśvara, whatever is the training of higher ethics, that is the accumulation of merit. Whatever is the training of higher wisdom.

Therefore, that is a collection of wisdom. Diligence and meditation, I say, are constant practices. World Honored One, how should a Bodhisattva train in those six grounds of learning? Avalokiteśvara, with five aspects, namely, teaching the sacred Dharma endowed with pāramitā, having great faith in the Bodhisattva's treasury from the very beginning, and thereafter, with the ten practices of Dharma, cultivating the wisdom arising from hearing, thinking, and meditating, protecting the Bodhi mind, relying on virtuous spiritual friends, and constantly and continuously engaging in virtuous practices. World Honored One, for what reason should we understand that these grounds of learning are established as six in number? Avalokiteśvara, for the sake of two things, namely, benefiting sentient beings and counteracting afflictions. Among them, three are for benefiting sentient beings, and three should be understood as counteracting afflictions. Among them, the Bodhisattva, with generosity, benefits sentient beings by providing them with the necessities of life. With discipline, he benefits by not causing poverty, harm, or transgression. With patience, he benefits by not being bothered by poverty, harm, or transgression. These three are for benefiting sentient beings. With diligence, he engages in virtuous practices that subdue and eliminate afflictions, therefore, he cannot be moved from engaging in virtuous practices by afflictions. With meditation, he subdues all afflictions. With wisdom, he skillfully destroys latent tendencies. These three are the antidotes to afflictions. World Honored One, for what reason should we understand that the other pāramitās are established as four in number? Avalokiteśvara, because those six pāramitās themselves are of the nature of being helpers. Among them, after benefiting sentient beings with the three pāramitās, the Bodhisattva skillfully establishes them in virtue with the skillful means of being encompassed by the objects of gathering, therefore, I
