Now enjoy here, and then renounce later. You can obtain great enjoyment and kingship. Don't say that I haven't relied on any good desires. It's not okay to regret after renouncing. Rely on desires and renounce here. Your enjoyment is great, and your kingship is supreme. It's difficult to obtain perfect leisure. If you renounce in order to rely on desires, young man, you will regret it later. At that time, the king's youth said to the demon: Relying on desires will not bring me happiness. Because you praise accumulating desires, you dwell in inverted perceptions. When it is difficult to find non-leisure, it is difficult to realize it now, today. Having found leisure, I will practice the Dharma, and I will quickly go and renounce there. I see the faults in the desire realm, and I also see that the form realm has faults. I also see that the formless realm has faults. I see that Nirvana, which is peaceful, has no faults. After seeking all unconditioned dharmas, I will do great benefit for people, liberate sentient beings afflicted by old age and disease, and turn back those who rush into samsara. Twelfth fascicle. Sharadvatiputra. Then the demon Forgetfulness said to the king's youth, Remembrance Obtained: Young man, you should completely seek the Buddha's teachings. Thus he spoke. Young man, I desire benefit for you, I desire help, accomplishment, and happiness. Therefore, young man, I will show you. If you follow me, it will be for your benefit. Then Sharadvatiputra, the king's youth, Remembrance Obtained, said to the demon Forgetfulness: Hey, man, please show me, and having heard, I will understand. Then the demon Forgetfulness said this to the king's youth, Remembrance Obtained: Son of good family, if you abide by your own vow, then I will show you later. The king's youth said: Hey, man, please show me, and having heard, I will understand. Haven't I said that to you? Thus he spoke, and the demon Forgetfulness said: King

The youth, the one who has attained mindfulness, said: Youth, you should not say, "Having heard, one should understand." Youth, you should show me, and I will act according to your words. The king's youth said: Hey, person, you should not say, "According to my words, follow me completely." Why is that? Hey, person, if you show what is not Dharma with the perception of Dharma, or show Dharma with the perception of what is not Dharma, I will thoroughly examine and discard it, and if you show it correctly, I will accept it. Hey, person, therefore, those words "Having heard, one should understand" are the characteristics of the wise, the actions of the virtuous, and the actions of very careful examination. Hey, person, if you say, "According to my words, follow me completely," then these are not the codes of conduct of the virtuous, nor are they praised by the wise, that is the work of Mara, those are not the deeds of the Buddha. Hey, person, therefore, if you give me non-Dharma teachings that contradict the previous vows, that is not right, so I will not say a word completely. Therefore, I have seen those faults, should I follow or not follow? I did not say a word completely. Then, Mara Forgetful thought: This king's youth, should he follow in this way, or should he not follow? He did not say a word completely, so he has gained discernment. Then, in order not to let Mara Forgetful exert effort with his eyes, he gave the king's youth, the one who has attained mindfulness, the praise of "Good!" Those youths are the actions of the wise, youth, you do not say completely, "I will follow," it is very good, very good. Youth, furthermore, I will show you, and you should also fully understand. Youth, you should not rely on the place where you see the most faults. The youth said: Hey, person, you should not say that. Why is that?

Then, one with many faults should not be relied upon, and one with very few faults should also not be relied upon. Why is that? Alas, people, much poison can kill, and little can also kill; whatever poison is mixed with the food of a wheel-turning king can also kill, and whatever is mixed with the food of ordinary people can also kill, therefore those are not to be eaten and should not be relied upon. Alas, people, in the same way, do not rely on one with many faults! Rely on one with very few! After saying this, alas, people, neither of those two should be relied upon! Alas, people, what should the wise rely on? Alas, people, what the wise should rely on is whatever is without fault, without anything, without impurity, without plague, without disease, unmoving, become cool, and blissful. Then the demon Forgetfulness thought to himself: I have made the youth remember what he has realized, and he only abides in what he has realized, but he sees that as having faults, and later he will also refute it. After thinking about it in this way, he said again: Youth, like this, whatever is without plague, without fault, and peaceful, the wise will generate joy, you have spoken well in saying that. Youth, the conduct of a Bodhisattva has many faults. What are those faults? Like this: the fault of birth, the fault of going, the fault of samsara, following attachment, the fault of anger, the fault of begging at the wrong time, the fault of completely abandoning pleasing things, like this: the fault of completely abandoning the eyes and ears and nose and tongue and body. Like this, the conduct of a Bodhisattva has extremely many faults. If one does not generate the mind of enlightenment, then it is less. It is good that you think that many should not be relied upon, and few should not be relied upon either. Youth, I did not know that you were so clever and wise. I see that your superior intention is very good, and I will also forget.
