Seventh, The Chapter on Birth. Seventh, The Chapter on Birth. Then, the Blessed One again spoke to the Venerable Sharadvatiputra: Sharadvatiputra, Bodhisattvas truly perceive all that should and should not be done through three actions. What are the three? Sharadvatiputra, for example, one should thoroughly seek the noble Dharma for the sake of what is not the action itself, this is the first action. Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, the Bodhisattva seeks the Buddha's teachings without measuring them. Even when hearing the profound teachings of the Buddha, they are not afraid, but investigate the depths, have great faith, and do not abandon them. Sharadvatiputra, as they hear the profound teachings, they increasingly grow in vast and excellent intention without turning back. This is the second action, and it should be seen as the Bodhisattvas' excellent intention being complete. Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, if someone comes to a Bodhisattva Mahasattva and says: "A Bodhisattva who has generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment must completely give away all possessions." There is nothing that a Bodhisattva should not give. Having said this, if the Bodhisattva does not become discouraged upon hearing this, does not become lazy, and does not turn back, this is the third action, and it should also be seen as the Bodhisattva's excellent intention being complete. Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, if someone comes to a Bodhisattva and says: "One who has generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment must accomplish all means of happiness for all sentient beings. Therefore, I am suffering so much, I am extremely suffering, so you should only accomplish the means of happiness for me! Later, accomplish the means of happiness for other sentient beings." Having said this, if the Bodhisattva does not become discouraged upon hearing this, and is able to accomplish that happiness, but does not accomplish it, my (the Bodhisattva's) mind

If one cannot even accomplish the means of happiness for this sentient being, what need is there to mention all sentient beings? This will give rise to a timid mind. If one gives rise to a universally timid mind, then that universally timid mind should be regarded as not being a superior intention. Sharadvatiputra, if one accomplishes the means of happiness for that sentient being, and that sentient being scolds the Bodhisattva and restrains him, and also universally scolds him with harsh words that should not be uttered, the Bodhisattva should not generate anger towards him. Do not generate a harmful mind. One should generate a mind of loving-kindness and compassion towards him. One should accomplish happiness for him, not suffering. Sharadvatiputra, in this way, the Bodhisattva's superior intention should be understood as unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. The Bodhisattva, with a mind of taming and pacifying, and a mind of accomplishing the means of happiness, truly sees that immeasurable samsara is cut off. He also truly sees that the means of happiness are accomplished for immeasurable sentient beings. He also truly sees that his own Buddha-dharma is fully matured. He also truly sees that each and every generation of the mind accomplishes immeasurable Buddha-dharma. Therefore, the Bodhisattva should be known to possess a superior intention and be skilled in means. If the mind is not weary and the mind does not turn back, and the means of happiness are accomplished for that sentient being, and that sentient being scolds, restrains, and universally scolds with harsh words that should not be uttered, the Bodhisattva should be patient with him. The Bodhisattva Mahasattva thinks like this: These sentient beings are fully demonstrating the Buddha-dharma to me. If I generate any harmful thoughts towards them, I will fall back from Bodhi because of that. This is the Bodhisattva's unsurpassed, perfectly complete superior intention.

should be regarded as skilled in the means of enlightenment. Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, if someone comes to a Bodhisattva and says, 'Unsurpassed perfect enlightenment is difficult to attain. You cannot realize unsurpassed perfect enlightenment and become a Buddha, and you cannot properly practice the Buddha's teachings.' If, upon hearing this, they believe it, they should be regarded as not having superior intention. If they then develop the notion that the Buddha's teachings, which are difficult to attain, are easy to attain, they should be regarded as not having superior intention. Sharadvatiputra, furthermore, if someone comes to a Bodhisattva and says, 'Son of good family, whoever generates the mind for unsurpassed perfect enlightenment has no control over their own body or life. What need is there to mention having control over enjoyments? Alas, son of good family, it is not right for you to have no control over your body and life. Abandon that mind!' If that Bodhisattva Mahasattva then thinks, 'All sentient beings have no control over their body and life. Because they have no control over their body and life, they strive to protect them. Striving to protect them, their bodies will inevitably perish, their bodies will inevitably cease, and their lives will also inevitably cease. What need is there to mention me?' then they should be known as not having superior intention and not being skilled in means. Sharadvatiputra, if they think, 'All sentient beings strive to protect their body and life, but they have no control over their body and life. Their bodies, over which they have no control, will inevitably be completely destroyed, their bodies will inevitably cease, and they will inevitably be killed by harms such as birth, old age, sickness, and death. Because they strive to protect their bodies, they perform various actions. They protect their bodies'
