Then, to the Blessed One, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Good Guardian entreated thus: "Blessed One, should I place those sentient beings in the Buddhafields because they have applied medicine to me? Or should I harm them, saying that I will not place them in the Buddhafields because they have caused harm? That armor was not distributed for the benefit of sentient beings for the sake of benefit. Blessed One, Bodhisattvas are not to seek such armor. Blessed One, for example, the tree with all its branches full of flowers—the All-Entering Earth Growth—will delight the Thirty-three Gods, and upon seeing the tree with all its branches full of flowers—the All-Entering Earth Growth, the Thirty-three Gods will play with the five non-human objects of desire, rejoice, and happily enjoy themselves. Blessed One, would the Thirty-three Gods then harm the tree with all its branches full of flowers—the All-Entering Earth Growth? Or would they apply medicine? Because upon seeing the All-Entering Earth Growth, the Thirty-three Gods will rejoice, play with the five non-human objects of desire, rejoice, and happily enjoy themselves, and upon touching the tree with all its branches full of flowers—the All-Entering Earth Growth, the Thirty-three Gods will rejoice. Blessed One, do the Thirty-three Gods harm the All-Entering Earth Growth? Although no medicine was applied, however, in order for the Thirty-three Gods to enjoy sensual pleasures, it is appropriate to appear before the tree with all its branches full of flowers—the All-Entering Earth Growth. Similarly, Blessed One, do sentient beings harm me? Although no medicine has been applied, however, having attained the wisdom of the Wisdom Buddha, just like the tree with all its branches full of flowers—the All-Entering Earth Growth, it is necessary to make those countless and immeasurable sentient beings appear, to make it appropriate.

For the sake of sentient beings, I have donned such armor. Moreover, the five powers of the Tathagatas, which sentient beings do not rejoice in, are enjoyed with play, joy, and delight, like the gods of the Thirty-Three. World Honored One, we have donned that armor in order to be separate from sentient beings, not in order to fixate on sentient beings; we have donned it in order to be separate from self, not in order to fixate on self; we have donned it in order to be separate from dharma, not in order to fixate on dharma; we have donned it in order to be separate from aggregates, not in order to fixate on aggregates; we have donned it in order to be separate from elements, not in order to fixate on elements; we have donned it in order to be separate from sources, not in order to fixate on sources. Thus, we have donned such armor, the armor of separation. World Honored One, that armor is the armor of separation; for it, there is no armor, no fruit of armor; it is not for the sake of attaining anything, nor for the sake of abandoning anything; we have donned such armor. I do not adhere to "this is armor" and do not borrow it, nor do I borrow "this armor is like this," nor do I borrow "it is such a measure," nor do I borrow "this armor is for this"; we have donned such armor. World Honored One, if I were to borrow it, it would become an attachment to self. World Honored One, I do not attach to it, and the Bodhisattva does not abide in self or non-self, for this reason. World Honored One, if one were to abide in non-self, it would become abiding only in self. World Honored One, it is for the sake of not abiding in all dharmas. World Honored One, in the world, that armor is cultivated in such a way; World Honored One, it is cultivated in such a way as if nothing were cultivated at all. Furthermore, World Honored One, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Good Protector spoke thus to the World Honored One.

Venerable One, I have not truly seen that the dharmas of ordinary beings are distant, nor have I truly seen that the dharmas of the Buddhas are near. I have not truly seen that the dharmas of learners are distant, nor have I truly seen that the dharmas of the Buddhas are near. I have not truly seen that those dharmas of the Buddhas are thus, nor have I truly seen that those dharmas of the Buddhas are such. Venerable One, I have donned such armor, not truly seeing any benefit, nor truly seeing any fault. In the world, armor is thus donned. Then, the five hundred Bodhisattvas, including Bhadrapala, scattered lotuses upon the Venerable One, and those lotuses fell into the pure realms of the ten directions, raining down upon the Buddhas, the Venerable Ones, and also causing beings to fully ripen. Chapter Three Furthermore, at that time, in the east, beyond countless, immeasurable world systems, far beyond that, in a world system called 'King of the Splendor of Names,' there resided a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Buddha named 'Sound Without Marks.' He lived, existed, and also taught the Dharma. That Venerable One also prophesied to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva who had just generated the thought of enlightenment, 'Turning the Wheel of Dharma,' saying, 'This one will awaken to unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment after me.' Thus, he prophesied unsurpassed, perfect enlightenment. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva who had just generated the thought of enlightenment, 'Turning the Wheel of Dharma,' saw that great light and also heard that clear sound. Having heard it, he spoke to the Tathagata 'Sound Without Marks' thus: 'Venerable One, whose are this light and this clear sound?' Having spoken thus, the Venerable One spoke thus to the Bodhisattva 'Turning the Wheel of Dharma' who had just generated the thought of enlightenment:
