When a Bodhisattva engages in conduct, they attend to and inquire from countless billions of Buddhas. Son of Maudgalya, far beyond countless eons in the past, even far, far beyond that, there was a Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Buddha named Limitless Vision. From that time until the Buddha Bhagavan appeared in the world. That Tathagata Limitless Vision had seventy billion Shravaka sanghas. Dwelling within that Shravaka sangha, starting from the path that prevents knowing what is happening now, he taught the Dharma that this path can fully understand what is happening now. At that time, a spiritual friend of the Shakya clan, like a great Sala tree, gathered in his retinue. He then requested the Bhagavan, the Tathagata Limitless Vision, saying: Bhagavan, I wish to hear the Dharma of the Bhagavan, starting from the path that prevents knowing what is happening now, teaching the various thoughts and afflictions of sentient beings, and the special characteristics of the path. When he made this request, the Bhagavan, the Tathagata Limitless Vision, said to the spiritual friend of the Shakya clan, who was like a great Sala tree: Spiritual friend of the Shakya clan, you have long dwelt in the practice of profound Dharma, attended to past Buddhas, and thought for the benefit of many beings, asking about these profound Dharmas, that is excellent, excellent. Spiritual friend of the Shakya clan, therefore, listen carefully and keep it in mind, and I will speak. The spiritual friend of the Shakya clan, who was like a great Sala tree, replied to the Bhagavan, "Good," and then listened to the Bhagavan's teachings. The Bhagavan said to him: Spiritual friend of the Shakya clan, the antidote to sentient beings' attachment to form is impurity. The antidote to sentient beings' attachment to sound is the perception of impermanence. Similarly, the antidote to sentient beings' attachment to smell is emptiness. The antidote to sentient beings' attachment to taste is

The antidote is the perception of disharmony. The antidote for beings who practice desire for what is touched is the perception of suffering. The antidote for beings who practice desire for dharma is the perception of selflessness. The virtuous friend of Saga will show in this way the antidote to how beings should behave. Another virtuous friend of Saga, all beings have a path and have the practice of the path, that is to say, the medicine without doubt for all the world is the perception of displeasure. Another virtuous friend of Saga, the conduct of all beings is without doubt, on the path, the conduct of all beings on the excellence of the path, by which path is correctly abandoned, that is to say, the door of liberation is without characteristics. The virtuous friend of Saga, that is to say, not attending to all characteristics, this is also the conduct of all beings, the path without doubt, will correctly cut off all bonds. The virtuous friend of Saga, in order to accomplish what I know, I have served countless Buddhas of the past, thus I accumulated roots of virtue, and with those roots of virtue, I accomplished the path by which the knowledge that arises now will be prevented. Modgal's son, then, the virtuous friend of the Saga royal family, like a great Sala tree, scattered flowers of all jewels upon the Bhagavan Tathagata Boundless Eye. After scattering them, he prostrated to the Bhagavan with his whole body. Modgal's son, if at that time you think that the virtuous friend of the Saga royal family, like a great Sala tree, is another person, you should not look at it that way, for at that time I became the virtuous friend of the Saga royal family, like a great Sala tree. With that root of virtue, I fully understood the path by which the knowledge that arises now will be prevented. Then, the Bhagavan spoke these verses at that time: Victorious ones, By honoring the protector who sees all, With that root of virtue, I purified the knowledge that arises now. If there were no such root of virtue, one could not see all, By what root of virtue, I purified the knowledge that arises now. Since I have nothing that I do not know of any dharma, Mara
