obtained the samadhi free from inherent existence. Son of Maudgalya, what do you think? Do you think that the sage who became known as the unobstructed wisdom seer at that time was someone else? Son of Maudgalya, you should not see it that way. Why is that? Because I, at that time, became the sage known as the unobstructed wisdom seer. The sound I uttered was carried without obstruction by the winds of the four directions, and those beings who were dwelling there, having heard that "all phenomena are without inherent existence," obtained the tolerance of non-arising phenomena. Son of Maudgalya, therefore, a bodhisattva who wishes to awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment should strive for the inherent non-existence of all phenomena. After he spoke these words, the venerable son of Maudgalya said this to the Blessed One: Blessed One, how profound and vast and wonderful is the wisdom of the Buddha, the Blessed One! As I understand the meaning of what the Blessed One has said, so too is the Buddha-field of the Buddha. As vast as the Buddha's knowledge is, so too does the Buddha subdue the beings of each Buddha-field. Blessed One, if sons or daughters of good family, striving for merit and seeking merit, were to completely fill Buddha-fields as numerous as inexpressible dust motes with jewels, and offer them to the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, for kalpas as numerous as inexpressible dust motes, compared to those who hold, comprehend, remember, and write down this category of Dharma that increases the wisdom of the Blessed One, and extensively and accurately explain it to others, or even write it on a book and hold it, this one would accumulate a greater collection of merit. After he spoke these words, the Blessed One said this to the great son of Maudgalya: Great son of Maudgalya, it is just so, it is as you say. Son of Maudgalya, take close hold of thorough investigation. In the ten directions of the world, Buddha-fields are inexpressible, mi-

In the realms of worlds as numerous as fine dust motes, all those sentient beings gathered as sentient beings, all of them without precedence or subsequence, having obtained the very nature of human existence, manifestly awakened to unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, becoming Tathagatas, there were as many heads of each Tathagata as that. As many heads as each of those Buddhas, Bhagavat, had, there were as many faces. As many faces as each of those had, there were as many tongues. Why is that? Maudgalyayana's son, the Tathagata possesses immeasurable wisdom, possesses unquantifiable wisdom, possesses countless wisdom, possesses inconceivable wisdom, possesses unmeasurable wisdom, possesses unquantifiable wisdom. Maudgalyayana's son, the Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly complete Buddha, possesses inexpressible wisdom. After the Bhagavat spoke thus, the venerable great Maudgalyayana's son rejoiced in what the Bhagavat had said and praised it exceedingly. The Sutra of the Extensive Wisdom of the Noble Bhagavat is complete, this is the Great Vehicle Sutra. Translated by the Indian Abbot Prajnavarman and the translator Bande Yeshe Nyingpo. Revised and finalized by the Indian Abbot Vishuddha Simha and Sarvajna Deva, and the revising translator Bande Pel Tsek. The Noble Bhagavat's Sutra of Extensive Wisdom, the Infinite Ultimate, called the Great Vehicle Sutra.
