Having given up concern for body and life, I will strive diligently. This world is shrouded in darkness, covered by thick darkness. Through the cause of the Buddhas' Dharma, may the light be fully illuminated. After we ourselves realize the realm of the Buddhas in Bodhi, I will liberate beings from the path of the realm of Mara. What do you think, son of Maudgalyayana? Do you think that the one who was called the Rishi Knower at that time was someone else? You should not see it that way. I was the one who was called the Rishi Knower at that time. Countless trillions of beings, touched by my light, were firmly established in the state of non-retrogression. Therefore, son of Maudgalyayana, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who wishes to be fully awakened to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment should especially admire the light. Son of Maudgalyayana, in order to know the defilement of ignorance, to know the origin of all things, from that point until 'What should I do?', connect it as before. Son of Maudgalyayana, from countless eons in the past, beyond that, even further beyond, there was a Rishi named 'Dwelling on the White Path,' who had great magical powers, great splendor, and great strength, who was free from desire through external paths, and who possessed Samadhi that was in accordance with all virtuous Dharmas. He thought to himself: 'What should a Bodhisattva learn in order to attain liberation through Samadhi that is in accordance with this virtuous Dharma?' He thought to himself: 'Only by practicing the Dharma of non-action can one attain liberation through Samadhi.' Why is that? Because all Dharmas are devoid of action, therefore they are uncreated. Then, he arose from that Samadhi of perfect mindfulness and awareness, and traveled throughout the ten directions, proclaiming that all Dharmas are devoid of action, therefore they are uncreated. Countless trillions of beings, having heard the Dharma he proclaimed, attained the tolerance of the unborn Dharma. What do you think, son of Maudgalyayana?

Ma. At that time, if you think that the ascetic named "Abiding on the White Path" was someone else, you should not think that way. At that time, I was the ascetic named "Abiding on the White Path." I wandered in those realms and showed that all dharmas are free from action, therefore they are not made. Countless immeasurable beings heard this and obtained forbearance of non-arising dharmas. Maudgalyayana, therefore, Bodhisattvas should always cultivate and meditate on this idea that all dharmas are free from action, therefore they are not made, and should practice it extensively. Maudgalyayana, in order to know and prevent the leakage of ignorance, when I practiced the practice of a Bodhisattva in the past, I thought that after I had attained the supreme, perfect, and complete enlightenment, how should I truly reveal it to sentient beings, and thus I accumulated various kinds of virtuous roots. Maudgalyayana, in the past, in immeasurable, countless, inconceivable, immeasurable, boundless, and inexpressible cycles of time, beyond that far shore, there was an ascetic named Unobstructed Knowledge, who was powerful and glorious, free from the desires of external paths, and possessed the samadhi called "the nature of all sentient beings is completely imperceptible." After he attained the samadhi called "realizing that all dharmas are devoid of nature," he constantly cultivated and meditated on the miraculous feet for twenty-four intermediate kalpas, and practiced extensively, so that he wandered in unspeakable Buddha-fields as numerous as dust particles, and showed the samadhi of imperceptibility of all natures. In those twenty intermediate kalpas, in those different Buddha-fields, he established unspeakable trillions of sentient beings in the forbearance of the Dharma of non-birth. Maudgalyayana, what do you think? If you think that the ascetic named Unobstructed Knowledge at that time was someone else, you should not think that way. What is the reason for that? At that time, I was the ascetic named Unobstructed Knowledge.

It became like this. I have fully practiced and meditated on those miraculous feet, making them abundant, so that in the Buddha-field, countless inexpressible trillions of sentient beings are established in the tolerance of the unborn dharma. Maudgalyayana, therefore, the Bodhisattva should abide in the four miraculous feet and abide in the tolerance of the unborn dharma. Maudgalyayana, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva who abides in the tolerance of the unborn dharma will quickly realize the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Maudgalyayana, in order to know the path that will prevent the leakage of ignorance, when I was practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, I thought, 'After I attain unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment and become a Buddha, how should I truly show sentient beings how to eliminate the leakage of ignorance?' So I accumulated countless roots of virtue. Maudgalyayana, in the past, countless eons ago, far beyond that, there was a sage named Unobstructed Knowing Seeing (drang srong sgrib pa med par shes pa mthong ba), who had great miracles, great power, and great glory, and was detached from desire by external paths. He went to a secluded place and dwelt inwardly in truth, and such a mental concept arose: 'What is dharma? What is the obstruction of dharma?' He thought to himself: 'There is no dharma, and there is no obstruction of dharma.' Why? Because all dharmas are devoid of essence. For example, the sky does not obstruct the sky. Why? Because the sky is devoid of essence.' Then he arose from that samadhi of perfect mindfulness and knowledge, and proclaimed: 'Friends, all dharmas are devoid of essence, therefore no dharma obstructs any dharma.' Having heard that sound, the winds of the four directions carried the sound, 'Friends, all dharmas are devoid of essence,' in all directions without gathering. Having heard that sound, countless trillions of sentient beings, all dharmas are essence
