I prostrate to the unsurpassed Bodhi! Then, the Blessed One knew the thoughts of all those Dragon Kings, and also knew their actions, and also knew their aspirations. Having performed the great purpose of the world including gods, humans, and asuras, he spoke to the monks: Monks, look! The Dragon Kings, having heard the discipline from the Thus-Gone One, will show the signs of discipline, will show the signs of attachment, will show the signs of adherence, will show the signs of leading, will show the signs of various leading, will show the signs of ripening, that is to say, with superior intention, they will generate the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. All those Dragon Kings, having benefited sentient beings, will completely pass into nirvana by the vehicle of the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete Buddha. Then, the venerable great Maudgalyayana's son said to the Blessed One: Thus, the Thus-Gone One knows the ripening of the actions of sentient beings, knowing them exactly as they are, from the Blessed One's great miraculous power to the Blessed One's great glory, it is truly wonderful! Blessed One, by what ripening of actions has the Blessed One achieved the knowledge of places? Blessed One, please have compassion and grant a prophecy to all sentient beings. Having heard the prophecy of the Blessed One, when the Bodhisattva Mahasattva practices the practice of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, great joy and delight, and mental happiness will arise, and they will practice the practice. Having said this, the Blessed One said to the venerable great Maudgalyayana's son: Maudgalyayana's son, well done! well done! Maudgalyayana's son, you are thinking of asking the Thus-Gone One about this matter, Maudgalyayana's son, you have initiated this for the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, for the love of the world, for the benefit, welfare, and happiness of many assemblies of beings, you to the Thus-Gone One

The feeling of wanting to ask about this matter is: Good. Maudgalyayana's son, for that reason, listen well and thoroughly, keep it in mind, and I will speak. The venerable Maudgalyayana's son loudly said "Good" to the Bhagavan, listening like the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan said to him: Maudgalyayana's son, in order for me to know the place, when the Bodhisattva of the past was practicing, I approached and served countless Tathagatas and completely inquired. Those kinds of generating roots of virtue, therefore, Maudgalyayana's son, you should understand it this way. Maudgalyayana's son, in the past, in the past era, there was a Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, named Lotus Holder, possessing knowledge and conduct, Sugata, World-knower, Tamer of beings, Charioteer, Supreme, Teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Bhagavan appeared in the world. That Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha Lotus Holder had ninety-six billion Shravaka Sanghas. At that time, there was a Brahmin named Utpala Eye, like a huge Sala tree. He offered a humble monastery to the Bhagavan, that Tathagata Lotus Holder and his Shravaka Sangha, and prayed: By this root of virtue of serving the Bhagavan and his Shravaka Sangha, may I obtain knowledge of place. Then, that Tathagata Lotus Holder approved of me, saying: Utpala Eye, good, good. Utpala Eye, by this root of virtue, in the future, you will obtain knowledge of place. By that root of virtue, I obtained knowledge of place. Then, the Bhagavan spoke these verses at that time: Having made the abode of the meditator, and offered the monastery, by that root of virtue, I accomplished the knowledge of place. After I generated that root of virtue, I generated this mind, that whatever sentient beings in the ten directions of the world, possess knowledge of place and fully endowed roots of virtue.

I rejoice in the merit of all those actors, and I also dedicate the merit of my rejoicing entirely to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. By that root of virtue, I will accomplish knowing the place and knowing the arising. Then, at that time, the Blessed One spoke these verses: For the sake of knowing the place, those who practice without negligence, I rejoice in their conduct, my mind is not shaken, I rejoice in virtue, in the conduct of that lord, having rejoiced with thought, I thus accomplish the arising. I constantly and continuously rejoice with a mind unattached to the three realms in those who manifestly accumulate roots of virtue, and by the root of virtue that has no doubt about their ripening, I comprehend knowing the place and knowing the cessation. That path is also comprehended by exerting effort, not by laziness, and by that root of virtue, I comprehend knowing the path by which knowing the place will cease. Then, at that time, the Blessed One spoke these verses: Knowing the place and knowing the arising, and likewise also the cessation, by which path is it attained, the supreme of two-legged ones knows it. The bodhisattva who possesses that knowledge is fearless, for the sake of benefiting all the world, the guide liberates it. Maudgalyayana's son, in order to know the non-place, generated countless roots of virtue. Maudgalyayana's son, in immeasurable past eons, a Tathagata named Non-Abiding Conduct appeared in the world, and the assembly of hearers of that Tathagata Non-Abiding Conduct once numbered sixty-eight thousand. At that time, there was also a householder named Thospa, who offered all the requisites of that Tathagata Non-Abiding Conduct and made this aspiration: May I attain the non-abiding Dharma by this root of virtue. He did not make an aspiration for any Dharma caused by that. By that manifestly accumulated root of virtue, I will
